Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Hi 37Changes!

I am currently enrolled to start Ivy Tech in the Spring. I see we will be taking a couple of the same classes. I'm not sure if I overlooked it, but what campus are you enrolled at?

Here are my scores.

A&P- A

ENGL- A

PSY- B

TEAS- 74 pts

All together I am applying with 129 points. I am also retaking the TEAS for a higher score. I am extremely nervous about applying to the ASN program. I live in Indianapolis and am applying to multiple campuses. Is this considered competitive?

I think it is a good score but not a competitive one. I am in the Ivy Tech forum on Facebook. You should join! In the group people have posted what scores they had , what campus they applied to, and if they were accepted or not. I have read of people getting in with that score. I think it most likely depends on what campus you apply for. Some campuses are harder to get it than others. Here is the link if you or anyone else wants to join Log into Facebook | Facebook.

Hi Katie1994

I wanted to let you know that I have a close relative that got in the lpn with 2 b's and a 60 on the TEAS...try not to stress (I know, easier said than done) best of luck! :)

Hello all. I'll be applying for the New Castle and Muncie campus this Spring. Unfortunately, I have 2 B's, but I' m hoping I can score high enough on the TEAS VI Exam to make up for it. I've taken Practice Test A and received an 84.7%. I'm hoping the exam is similar. I also purchased Practice Test B, however I haven't taken it just yet. I'm remaining hopeful, but also trying not to get my hopes up. I have a good job now, but there's not much of a future... nursing has always been a dream of mine.

Why am I just now seeing this thread!!?? Hi everyone! A bit about myself..my name is Kadijah and I just turned 23 last month. I have a 5 year old daughter as well. Her name is Serenitee but we call her Reni for short. I live in Richmond and I am actually new to the area. Been here a year, so maybe not so much new anymore. Hah! I married my wife last month as well. Yay!

I am applying for LPN and ADN programs to start in the fall of this year, 2017. I'm applying at the Richmond, Muncie, and New Castle campuses.

So far I have taken my Pre-Reqs. I have B in A&P, A in Psycholgy, and A in English. I'm scheduled to take my TEAS tomorrow morning. And let me tell you, I'm terrified! I don't know what to expect.

I have purchased the TEAS app on my iPhone and I have the Momentrix Study Guide Book.

I've taken two practice tests. I took one without studying. Just to see where I was and I scored a 75. I took it a second time and scored 82 after studying. I'll take another today just to see where I stand.

This spring semester, I am taking Advanced Human Physiology and Public Speaking. Also I'm taking two classes just to keep me going. Those classes are medical terminology and medical law and ethics.

The previous fall semester, I have taken A&P1 (retake because I made a C last summer), A&P2 (made a 75 C), Microbiology (made a high B), and Intro to Sociology online (made 79 C). I also have Math123 that I took last summer and I came out with a C. I'm sure if I took the classes in the fall instead of summer, I've done better but I'm glad with the grades I have now.

Hope I didn't bore any of you! Hah! I look forward to reading more and knowing more of you guys! Good luck to everyone!

Hi guys!

I had a meeting with my advisor today and found out some helpful information I thought I would share. As of right now, Anderson will be selecting 30 students for lpn and 30 for the rn (I'm told this is the number most schools do). Also, I spoke with another student who explained to me she got accepted into Muncie last year but wanted to go to Anderson and was able to switch to Anderson after finding out another student wanted to be at Muncie..I thought that was awesome! I also found out that the two year period for taking the teas renews two years from your first attempt. I hope this info was helpful. Here's to being anxious to apply!

YOU GUYS -- I don't know how in the world I did not have my own thread BOOKMARKED!

Here you've all been chatting away, and I had NO idea. Wow. So good to hear from all of you! Lots of good info here. Please do keep coming back and posting.

I guess I just haven't had much to report, and the kids were home for Christmas break for 18 days ~ so that kept us busy. Two of my boys have birthdays right around the Holidays, also.

For the person who asked -- I am attending the Muncie campus for my pre-reqs, starting next week. That is the only campus I will be applying to for the fall nursing program, as well. I am unable to commit to traveling to other campuses at this point. I need to be close to my kids' schools. My husband's job situation at this point is not one that allows him to be reliably available for emergencies and such, and we have no family in town. So I've made peace with the decision that if I don't get accepted in Muncie ~ it wasn't meant to be. I'm going to give it my best effort, and that's all I can do. I've still got a family to take care of.

I can't believe how quickly the time has flown by since I registered for classes! I was so excited and wanted to start right THEN... now here it is ~ just a few days away.

Hey everyone! I am preparing to take my teas test and apply for nursing at Bloomington and Indianapolis for fall 2017. I have all A's so far but my biggest obstacle is my kids. I am trying to figure out how to do everything and make it work. Does anyone know how flexible the program is? I HAVE to wait for my husband to get home from his third shift job at 7;30 am every morning. I cant be anywhere before that. Have you heard from any people in the program what time their clinicals start or anything like that? I have been a stressed out ball of anxiety all winter trying to plan ahead schedule wise. Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I have 2 yr old twins and two other kids in elementary school so planning and scheduling are everything to me!

Although I am at the Lawrence campus and just starting the program this week, I have to state that there was no student involvement in the scheduling. The department chair did all of it without and input from students and stated that if possible, she would try to assign students that lived far to the closest clinical site that she could. I have heard that Columbus is similar from a friend who goes there. Scheduling is not very flexible. You have the right idea planning ahead. The clinical I am assigned is from 6:30am to 3:30pm. The long hours are typical of clinical days. The lab class is also very time consuming from 8:30am to 3:20pm. Certainly, your times will vary, but expect and treat the program as a full time job. I know that at the Lawrence campus, you can finish the rn program in just over a year because they allow you to take nursing classes in the summer. For instance, I start this week in January of 2017 and could graduate as early May of 2018. I love in Franklin and another student said they live in Martinsville. It takes me about 50 minutes in normal morning rush traffic to get to Lawrence and about 40 minutes to get home. Finding a flexible and reliable sitter is going to be the hardest part. Luckily my wife is an Rn and only works weekends and every other Tuesday, so finding a sitter for kids isn't an issue yet because I have no Tuesday classes.

Wow that's lucky! My husbands work schedule is grueling. I have been lucky to take all my other classes when it was convienent for me and we haven't had to have any child care ever. It is all new to me! I am in the mooresville/Camby area so Lawrence and Bloomington are exactly the same distance away for me, 40~ minutes. I will have to start looking for a morning person to get my 2 older kids on the bus and then to watch my twins. Did you take your TEAS exam at franklin? I thought it was listed as a place but I was just looking and it wasn't listed anymore :(

I am taking the TEAS next month. Good luck to everyone taking it!
