Ivy Tech Fall 2017 Hopefuls

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)

I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.

I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.

So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.

On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.

I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.

About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!

Yes, that can be very intimidating but I know you will do great! I am really nervous about the TEAS exam. I plan to take it the first week of February. I am waiting for my study book to come in the mail so I can begin the studying process.

I'll be interested in hearing how you like your study book and which one you purchased. I'm not sure if I don't like mine, or if I am just frustrated with the things I don't understand. :sarcastic: Lots and lots of info in there!

I do like the TEAS Mastery app for my phone, and I was really cruising along with that -- but again, when I really start to get into things I don't know, I walk away from it for awhile.

I just hope I can pick up enough math & science knowledge in my prerequisites to be able to do well on the TEAS in March. We'll see! I'm thinking of taking the TEAS in early March, so that if I'm not happy with my score, I can take it again 30 days later and still make the application deadline.

I purchased the one that you mentioned in your original post. I also have the ATI app on my phone since I also want to practice questions from the people who make the test. I will also buy one of their practice test. I'll take it before I study just to see where I am at with my strengths and weakness. Then i'll take it after I am done studying to see how much I improved.

Hi everyone!!

I'm planning to apply to the LPN program for Muncie, Anderson, Indy, and Richmond.

I have taken all my pre-reqs

Aphy 101- B

ENG 111-A

Psyc 101-B

My advisor recommended not retaking my classes with b's

I'm taking the TEAS in a few days.

Good luck to everyone!

Ha, LPNkt ~ I love your minion! :)

Please do pop back in and let us know how the TEAS goes for you. I am so happy to hear from another Ivy Tech-er. Thanks for posting!

Hi guys!

I took the TEAS today and was able to score a proficient. I was so worried as I have been out of school for a few years I was not sure I could do it. I do recommend buying the study manual, I also bought the practice test. I almost feel that the practice test was somewhat harder. I also was surprised to see on the back of my score sheet it listed what you had to get to score a basic, proficient, advanced, etc if anyone needs that info I will be happy to post those scores needed for each category.

Again, good luck to everyone. Merry Christmas!

I'd be interested in hearing the numbers ~ thanks!

And congrats on getting it done! :)

I plan to apply to the FW campus for fall 2017. I took my teas today and scored advanced with an overall score of 80. I only had 45 points from my classes. I had a B in ENGL, got an A in PSYC, and a B (89.49%) in A&P. So total points is 125. Not very competitive for ASN. If I don't make it in, I will retake A&P and ENGL and reapply for spring 2018. I really hope I get lucky, daycare costs add up with 4 kids in daycare and that's just more time spent in school and living off one income!

Hi smapes ~ I'm sorry it took me a few days to respond here. You know, the Holidays! :)

If you don't mind me asking -- how old are your kids? I've got 3 boys: 15, 12, and 10.

I got my Associates in Business Administration at the FW campus. Finished that way back in 2000. Man, that makes me sound old! haha Anyway, I LOVED Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne. We are in the Muncie area now, so I will be attending that campus for the first time in January.

Just an update post from me. I think I will look back at this thread as time goes on, and it will be interesting to see the journey.

As of now, I have purchased / got for Christmas:

~ All of my books for classes

~ A backpack

~ A daily planner

~ A funny nurse coloring book, A&P coloring book, and nice colored pencils

~ A calculator

~ TEAS study guide & TEAS Mastery app

~ Sharpie pens, five colors of highlighters

I'm such a nerd.

I haven't looked through my books yet ~ but I DID spent quite a bit of time flipping through the Martini's Atlas that came with my A&P book. Wow! I am fascinated by it. Real pics of cadavers in there. I made myself look to see if I would be grossed out at all. Nope. Honestly I just felt incredibly grateful to these people for the knowledge we are able to gain from this.

We have an 11 year old boy, 7 year old girl, 6 year old boy, and a soon to be 5 year old girl. We also have a 13 year old girl that does not go to daycare

Hello! I am also applying for fall 2017 admission. I am applying to the Indy, Muncie, Richmond, Kokomo and Columbus campuses. I live right outside of Knightstown, so hopefully I wont have to think about the Kokomo or Columbus campuses. I have an A in English, B in psych, and a B in A&P. I am retaking Psych to get an A. One of the advisors at the Muncie campus told me I don't need to re-take it, that she has seen people with B's get into the ASN program. The advisor I have been seeing at the New Castle campus, who also advises nursing students, said I should retake it. So, I am retaking it. I figure that 5 extra points could help. If I do get into all the campuses I want, it will probably come down to either Muncie or Richmond campus. I am leaning toward the Muncie campus though. I haven't taken the teas yet, I will probably do that in February and if I am not satisfied with my score, retake it in March. Or at least that is what the advisor suggests.
