Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!
I created a Help Desk ticket this morning and it was resolved pretty quick. They said that I am ineligible because my MATH123 grade has not posted and that the instructor has until today to submit it. I was also told I could email them and request that he submit it so I can apply for Nursing.
That's amazing! I'm hoping that that is what my issue is with my APHY grade is. My professor just told me he submitted final grades, now how long until they actually post on my end is another question.
When I look in Blackboard, my grades are all posted but it only shows my midterm grade for math in MyIvy. It shows my MATH123 is still in progress. I've been checking nonstop since I finished the class but it hasn't changed. The reply from the Help Desk said they have until end of business today to post the grades and that the final grades should be pushed out of the system sometime tomorrow. That's really cutting everything close!
Mine is the exact same way! No red "x" next to it, either, which I thought was weird. Hopefully this gets resolved soon. My professor emailed me, again, and told me that it usually takes about an hour for it to update on my end after he has posted final grades. That was 30 minutes ago so I'm trying not to check MyIvy until then!
Oh, good luck trying to get information from anyone about vaccinations. I am 38 years old, cannot locate any of my childhood records, I will need to have titers drawn for everything, and I want to start now. I know that I am going to need several immunizations and I do not want to have them all at once, nor am I able to ~ as certain ones need to be spread out over a certain amount of time. I have asked nicely, I have explained that I want to get started early, they are aware of how high my score is and that I am going to make it into the program, but it does not matter. At my campus anyway, they are treating this as top secret information that will only be disclosed at orientation after we are accepted.
I understand that they do not want people running out and doing things too early. They want the flu shot and the tuberculosis screening done within a certain amount of time and those things expire. I understand all of that, and I have told them that I understand all of that and that I will wait on those things. But regular immunizations there is no reason I can think of that I would need to wait. I am having my Tdap done tomorrow and titers drawn for the rest, which I have figured out through my own detective work.
So on the ivy tech nursing facebook group a student who started in Spring 2017 posted the paper given that listed all the things needed to get done before starting including vaccines. I'm assuming it isn't much different from Fall 2017. But keep in mind each campus is different
Two doses MMR (4 weeks apart) or titer showing immunity
Two doses varicella (4 weeks apart) or titer showing immunity
Hepatitis B series (3-dose series) 2nd dose one month after the f1st and 3rd dose 5 months after the second (from what I've seen on the group page it looks like as long as you've started the series you can participate in clinicals. All three do not need to be done by the time classes start).
Tdap with Td booster if Tdap is older than 10 years
Influenza - annually
TB screening - annually
I got a call back from my advisor, who is the nursing chair. She told me to submit another help desk ticket. I told her the help desk says this is NOT something on their end, and that they told me to call the Dean if it is not updated by noon tomorrow. She pretty much agreed with that (but told me to call one of the assistants to the Dean, which is the person I already left a message with this morning and have not heard back from).
She told me "there are a lot of grades going in right now" and that there may be "some lag time".

So when you go to MyIvy and go to grades for the Spring 2017 semester you have finalized grades there? I only have one from my 8 week course. My professor just emailed me again and told me that grades were posted. I checked MyIvy and I still have nothing. I did find something on the internet that says grades have to be posted to campus connect by midnight on Tuesday, so hopefully that means we will be able to reapply, or apply, tomorrow.
