Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....
Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?
I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.
And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!
columbus lpn now. turned down for rn. i will transfer to iupuc if I can't get in at Ivy Tech. Can you reapply at Ivy tech if you transfer? I have a feeling spring scores will be just as high. I know I am made for nursing, I like fast passe multi tasking jobs, love people no matter where they come from, and stress makes me perform that much better. And for some strange reason I am very comfortable in a hospital setting. My problem is I don't have the money to go to school in other districts. I have to make it work at home or take time out of school and figure out how i am going to buy a prius.:)
That is sooooo nice of the few of you that want to ridicule the people that got in to the ASN program in Columbus, which might I add are the same people that feel horrible for the people who didn't get accepted to the ASN, and are posting their scores so that anyone who wants to try to figure out the cutoff can if it helps ease the mind.
I AM one of those people who took ANP 101 and 102 over again to get my A's. I also have a full time job, and two sons that are in sports all year round and constant birthday parties and random other things that I need to take them to constantly. It's not like I just sit around and get B's in classes so that I can take them over again to get A's.
I will tell you what I am going to do for those of you that are wondering what "people like me" are going to do in the program when we can't re-take classes, I WILL ACE THEM!
Seriously, grow up and stop trying to blame the fact that ppl can re-take classes on the reason ya didn't get in. Kind of hard to be nice when I'm so excited to get my acceptance letter, just to get on the "Ivy Tech" topic and share, when all you see is negativity. Might want to think about that b4 you write nasty posts.
LPN letters aren't even out yet and that is just as good as RN.
So that brings me to the question, almost every post ends with "Good Luck", do u really mean that? I don't think so if this is how its gonna b.

You really need to calm down. I can completely relate with how those people feel, and I was accepted into the program.
I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with having to retake a class to earn an A, but IVY TECH should have some way of counting points to reflect that a class was taken twice. For example, if an A is received on the first attempt, then 30 points should be given. If an A was received on the second attempt, then perhaps 25 points should be given.
Everybody has issues with the system, and as of right now, there is nothing that can be done about it. But seriously, if they want to vent, then let them.
This is very stressful for everyone. Instead of blaming people and each other we need to put the blame where it belongs, on Ivy Tech. Their system is flawed. They should take into account GPA's, there should be interviews, and they should look at the coreq's. Because so many others have been forced to keep taking the Teas test and keep retaking classes the rest of us are forced to compete by doing the same thing. There is nothing that we can do about the situation so we all must live with that until Ivy Tech decides to make changes. I really doubt they will be making any changes, however, because they are collecting lots of extra money from those of us who are being forced to retake classes and the Teas. That is just the way it is and will continue to be.
It is obvious that many of you are very stressed. Ivy Tech has a very objective method to accept applicants. Having an interview would lead into subjectivity and is that a fair system? We would probably complain about that system also. Students are raising the bar higher by thinking they have to get all As. A B is a very good grade, but students are led to believe that all As are necessary. Some students don't do as well on the TEAS because of math, however with the new requirements, students will probably now do better on the math portion of the TEAS component. The math and the science portion are killers!
If you have been declined a spot, keep trying. The fall is much more competitive than the spring. Scores are usually lower. If you keep trying, you will get in! Have faith! I wouldn't say shame on Ivy Tech...it should be shame on the system...not enough faculty because our government won't allocate more money, so they can't increase enrollments. It's bigger than Ivy Tech. It would be great if other campuses besides Indy can take more. Indy already takes 120 students...why not others? We can all complain about Ivy Tech, but what about other schools of nursing in the area? I haven't heard any other school accepting as many students as Ivy Tech in Indianapolis.
Congrats to all who have received acceptance letters and congrats to all for the journey. The journey is not finished. If you have the drive, you will be a nurse one day! Believe!
I agree with newRN09 about the interview - I don't think that would be fair. Ivy Tech's current system isn't perfect, but what system is? I think that if there was an interview portion, it would increase the chances of favoritism or bias, and no one wants that.
I agree about not wanting an interview in the process. I have a friend whose be rejected twice from IUPUI and she's got a better overall GPA than mine. THe only thing that could be doing it to her would be the interview.

lol...i'm watching the boards too. and i also have all of my co-reqs finished with a's. you brought up the same point i did when i found out people were re-taking the pre-reqs multiple times...in nursing you won't have 3 chances to save a patient's life. which campuses are you still waiting for?
