Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning on applying by April 1st....

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? Where are you with your pre-reqs? What campus are you applying to?

I am planning on taking the TEAS in December, so I have enough time to retake it :) and this is my first semester at Ivy Tech. I'm taking APHY 101, ENGL 111, and PSYC 101 all this semester and I will complete APHY 102 next semester. I am planning on applying to Indy.

And good luck to all the Spring 2010 applicants! :yeah:Hope everyone gets in!!!

I am only taking 3 classes next semester...so far:)

APHY 102 (ONLINE)- 16 Weeks

HLHS 107 (CNA Prep)- 1st 8 weeks

COMM 102 (ONLINE)- 2nd 8 weeks

This will end up being 11 credit hours total. I'm trying not to be too overwhelmed like I was this semester with 16 credit hours. Does anyone know how that will affect financial aid, since it isn't 12 credit hours to be considered full time? If needed I will probably add MATH 118 back in somewhere.

Also, how does financial aid work for the summer??

When I was going to take the CNA prep class last spring, I was told that those credits would not count toward my financial aid standing. Meaning if I was taking less then 12 credits outside this class I would still be considered part-time. To be full-time I had to have 12 credits without including the CNA class.

Jessica!!!!

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! That sucks! Well nevermind I guess I won't be doing CNA Prep then:(

Yea that's why I didn't take it I didn't have time for 4 classes and the CNA Prep.

I called Financial Aid today and asked about the CNA Prep credits counting towards the credits needed to be considered full time and they laughed at me and told me they didn't believe that I had heard it wouldn't...??!! They tried to make me feel dumb and were like, of course it will 5 + 7 equals 12 so all you need is to find an additional 7 credit hours to take.

I am going to speak with someone in the academic advising office to verify.

Gee you got conflicting info from someone at Ivy Tech? LOL Don't get me wrong I like Ivy Tech for the price, and look forward to going through the nursing program. . . but you will get five different stories from five different people most of the time.

I am learning this now:( Hopefully everything will end up ok.

I don't think I will be making into the RN program I took PSYCH 101 online and for some odd reason did horrible...well I am going to get a B for the class (I have an A from IBC-but the credits do not transfer) and I still have to take APHY 101 and APHY 102. So I am really hoping this CNA class will count towards the full time status!

Hey, if you have to- retake Psych in the spring! I don't see why it wouldn't count towards credits...that doesn't make any sense at all. Its a course...so what the heck?

I got my classes and I will be taking:

APHY 101

ENGL 211

PSYC 201

and an ethics class (philosophy)- I thought it would be interesting and I needed another class!

Yeah I was just thinking about retaking it. At least I will know most of the info and will just do better on my midterm and final! Do you know how or if that would affect my financial aid?

I am so scared to take APHY 101 and APHY 102...I pray that I will be able to get A's in both. Any advice??

101 starts 10/20 for 8 weeks and I know I am going to regret having to take it in such a short time frame but I hope it works out! I registered for 102 online as well because I could not find any face to face classes that would work with the CNA prep class and I was really hoping to do that class, but at least 102 will be 16 weeks vs 8 weeks!

Kgle how is 102 going for you? I know you said before that the prof you have this time is sooooo much better.

Emmi, just study and so the self study quizzes and practice tests for APHY and you should be fine. I'm getting ready to take the midterm on Saturday and I'm freaking out! I am terrified that I will fail the midterm because I'm not a very good test taker.

Thanks Taranator. I am getting eager about class starting in a few days and can't wait to see exactly what the assignments and stuff are going to be like.

FYI for anyone thinking about taking the CNA Prep...I followed up with an academic advisor and then back to financial aid and was told that the 5 credit hour CNA Prep class would be counted towards the 12 credit hours needed to be considered full time as long as you are a student pursuing a degree! Woo!!
