IV antibiotics compatible with D5W ?

Published

Hi all, i am a new nurse. I had a question about compatibility of IV antibiotics. There is an antibiotic - Imipramine (something like that) its combination with some other antibiotc (cant remember the name) so the question is - can we piggyback that antibiotic with D5W ? Pls reply asap. Thanks!

Sometimes I hate to say it, I think of those pictures of the impostors the state boards sends out with its quarterly newsletter when I see threads like this. This is basic pharmacology, and any reasonable and prudent nurse should know how to use an IV compatiblity chart.

Of course I have been accused of having a dark twisted mind, and being paranoid.

I just hope she figured out the names of the antibiotics she was supposed to give...and did not give the poor soul an antidepressant....never mind the D5W..issue.....whoa....

...yeah, yeah, yeah..why don't you beat that dead horse for while....

NO, if I were the pharmacist who got that question (where the question should have been directed to begin with) I would have questioned her to find out exactly which anbx she was talking about...or better yet, had the orders faxed to me, THEN I would have professionally answered her question....

Which is what should have been done....

Not asking a question on board without having the names of the drugs.......

Lol. Im a new nurse but i would have chewed up the OP and SPIT her out mangled on the floor.

What kind of nurse confuses an anti-depressant (not given IV) and an ABX. and doesnt seem bothered about finding out the difference?

Shame!!!!!!!

I think the "not bothered about finding out the difference" is what bothers me the most...I am still shaking my head over this one...
