I know it might be over a month for some, but its coming up soon for me!

I meet with the retiring nurse this coming wednesday to learn the ropes. Then staff starts inservice Aug. 17th and 18th. Our kids start school Aug. 19th!

My summer has really flown by!

8/31, but I have five 1/2 days before school starts for sports stuff.

Technically I'm supposed to be back with the teachers tomorrow for two days of inservice. But I work hospice on Mondays. I've been putting in some hours ahead of time though.

The kids start on Wednesday, August 19.

I will work until Nov 1 and then I'm out. They still haven't found a nurse to replace me. Any takers? They've increased it from 3 days a week to 5 days a week.

Sitting here now working on a Welcome Back email and/or letter. One for staff reminding them of things like letting me know when IEP's are scheduled, needing sports rosters for drug testing, etc. Still don't have volunteers for the epi-pen legislation that went into effect last January. We did get out epi-pens during the summer. It took 6 months to find a doc who would write an Rx for the entire district.

I'm getting nauseous thinking about getting back to work. So ready to retire at this and just do hospice.

My official day back is September 8th, however, I will be going in a few days before that to meet with some parents. I have another diabetic this year!

Even though my first official day is 8/31 and my first day with the kids is 9/1, I have been back a bit. I am contacted for 5 half days (which of course, is not enough) to do sports clearances paperwork. Since football already started and other varsity starts up again next week, I have been bopping in and out, trying to balance with my new HH job orientation.

Kids start Sept 8th but I have been in a fair amt to conquer paper mountain! It's insane. Also trying to chase those not compliant with imms. A LOT this year!

Are you in Texas?? We passed Epi pen legislation too but apparently until the "committee" is put together and comes up with a set of guidelines we will not be getting a stock of Epi pens! :/

Check in with the California School Nurse Organization. They have written a whole policy about it and you can purchase all the forms including training PP.

It took us 6 months to find a physician who would write an order for our entire district. Lots of trouble with that throughout California.

I've been back at work since July 27th! The kids started school on Aug. 3rd. I'm worn out already! :D

Good lord! That's terrible!

I'm annoyed about going back before Labor Day!

I had a discussion with our sup a couple of days ago about this. Parents are the ones clamoring for the "old days" of starting school after Labor Day. Especially up here because our fair starts the Wed before Labor Day weekend and goes to Monday. Lots of kids have animals entered into the fair. We have to get them to the fairgrounds on Wednesday. They show on Thursday. Monday is sale day.

But the teachers just don't want to go as far in June. Regardless of when you start, it is 180 actual days as mandated. It isn't hours by the way; it is days. They are so burned out and tired by then.

My thought is . . . . .you are going to feel that way regardless. If it is at the beginning of June or the middle of June.

School right now is minimum days by the way. And no real teaching going on - just welcoming them back and giving them rules and regs and stuff their parents have to sign.

The sup told me another story about this - there was a teacher when my 3 adult kids were in high school. The first day of school he stood in front of them and said in a sentence or two what the rules were and then he turned around to the blackboard and starting teaching. I like that.

And truth be told, at the end of the school year for a least two weeks, there are parties and movies and no real teaching that I can see in most of the classrooms I visit.

We usually start after Labor Day here in NY, but it's so late this year. This is maybe the third time I recall NY doing this since I've been a mom.

We still get all the holidays!

I'm back today for admin stuff. Students start next Monday, the 31st. In MA, most of the schools are starting after Labor Day, which pushes the school year to June 24th. They do not schedule snow days (my school does build in 5 by starting earlier) and the Almanac is predicting a winter worse than last year here!
