I got pulled over tonight for running a stop sign. I was coming home from Recovery Room call and talking about work on my cell when it happened--mind you this was on a back road with minimal lights so it wasn't hard to do.
I guess it helped that I accepted what I did ("mea culpa") and was preparing to give my DL and registration when he noticed my uniform.
"Never mind." The policeman said. "Just remember me if I'm ever in the hospital..."
He let me go.
I must've done something right in my life to have this "freebie".
So..yeah...it pays to be a nurse......
she said she was talking on her cell, not texting. texting while driving is a whole other level of stupidity, imo. talking while driving - not safe, but i've been guilty of it once or twice. texting while driving - no way in heck!
oops, you're right - don't know where i got that from. my apologies to the op!
um..... wow. paxil is a really nice medication. just fyi. i'm glad that you know that.oh, and every state's laws are different regarding gun control. just fyi.
having an opinion on a topic and not agreeing with you means needing medication? seriously?
i'm sure every state's laws are different regarding gun control. that wasn't brought into question into the post i responded to (in fact, it was specifically disregarded). but, feel free to turn it into whatever it is that makes your case for you.
Howzabout we just ignore each other instead of turning what was supposed to be a happy thread into a peeing match?I'm game if you are....
You did that all on your own. I answered your statements to me, and you didn't like what I had to say. I won't apologize for having a differing opinion. All you can do in response to that is come back with insults? And, *FYI*, flippantly mentioning Paxil to someone who has struggled with severe depression for most of their life, is not cool.
Honestly? I'm not feeling very charitable towards you right now. How nice of you to be "game" while still acting like a ... well, anything I can think to say here would violate the TOS (the whole, turning quotes into
Yikes! the comment about the Paxil was totally inappropriate!
I have gotten off of more tickets then I have ever gotten (gotten 3 in 16 years of driving). None of them had to do with nursing though, I just didn't BS the cop. One time I got pulled over, I even did something I shouldn't have to the other car not knowing it was an undercover car. I was like 19 I think. I could not believe he let me off with a warning. 3 tickets I did get were for minimal speeding (under 15 over on the HWY). I do have a lead foot, I am fully aware of the fact.
Not too long ago I was crossing the border from Canada and there were 2 officers working the crossing booth. The one takes our passports and DL's and starts running our information and the other came over and questioned us. Then he goes back and starts to search our trunk. Meanwhile, the guy in the booth leans over and says "oh which one of you is the RN?" I say it's me...He asks where I work, what dept, etc. Then to the other officer he says, "They're good, let them through" So the other guy just stops dead, snaps the trunk closed and lets us through!
It was weird b/c does that mean when cops run our info they can see we are registered within the state to practice and then already know we're nurses? Or maybe just because this was border patrol? and also it was funny because I guess we nurses are incapable of smuggling drugs or weapons lol not that I didn't appreciate the gesture.
It's scary what all Border Patrol knows about you.
Once you've passed through in a certain vehicle, every time you pass through with that vehicle (plate number) again, they know who you are before you even get up to the window! (computer reads your plate number and brings you up on the booth's screen while you approach) They know how many times you've crossed, what dates and times and for what purpose, who was in the vehicle each time, etc.
It kinda freaks you out the first time it happens, but after that you appreciate it because they don't need to scrutinize you as much after that -- if two adults and a male child always pass through, always going from their home to Grandma's house, and if their are no red flags from previous visits, etc., they practically wave you through. They don't have to enter your passport info into the computer or anything, because it's already all in there... really speeds up the process!

and is supremely passive aggressive, not to mention contradictory and phony). I SHOULD be saying all of this in a PM and not in the thread, so I DO apologize to the rest of the group for that.
Sorry, but I have to agree with brillohead (haha). You seem really p'd off in this thread - and actually, some others too. I'm not saying that to start anything either - just making an observation. You come across as aggressive and angry, and nit-picky.
If you were on your cell phone. You should have gotten a ticket. I dont care who you are but if you have ever worked in the ER when there was a MVA accident involving a cell phone you would would feel differently. Pull over on the side of the road if you really need to talk on the phone or use "hands free." Talking on cell phones while driving is one of the most dangerous things a driver can do. People get killed and lives change. You are a medical professional you should know better.
I get so angry when I see people talking on their cells with children in their cars. So what are we teaching our children. It is pretty darn scarey. As I said lucky the only thing you did was run a red light and no one was injured!

i responded to what was said. plain and simple. i said it above, but i'll say it again.
from the post:
he's been excused from at least two speeding tickets each year, based solely on his ccw, in multiple states. when he took his gun training class (which is required to get a ccw in michigan) it was taught by a retired state trooper. the instructor explained to the entire class that if they ever get pulled over, to automatically hand the officer their ccw with their driver license, even if they don't have their weapon with them at the time. not because its a rule for identification or disclosure purposes, but because it's a "get out of the ticket free" card.
