Is a 3.3 Science GPA A Deal Breaker for California ADN Programs?

Published

I got an A in Physio and a B in both Micro and Anatomy and feel absolutely crushed.

I was one percent away from an A in Anatomy and I feel like nursing school is going to be close to impossible now. I'm probably being dramatic but I just needed to vent.

A cna license(state certified) and 1000 hrs of experience on top of an AA degree counts for a lot of points and should help mitigate your science gpa.

Just do well on your TEAS u should get in most adn programs

Thanks for everyone leaving their input, turns out I got an 'A' in Anatomy, so I have a 3.6 science GPA now!!! I'm so excited.

Hopefully this gives you hope.... I was recently accepted into an ADN program with all B's and no previous degree, though I am an EMT. I received a B in Anatomy, B+ in Microbiology, and a B in Physiology. TEAS: 84%.

I applied to 3 programs, was denied by 1 (applied twice and was denied twice), waitlisted by the other 2 (first time applying) and eventually got into one!

Don't give up hope, you can do it!!

Nice! Congratulations - a 3.66 means you're in the running. Out here in the San Bernardino/Riverside area some CC's are random selection & some are points, I don't know of any that still have wait lists. Big thing is what kinds of scores your competition is racking up. Get a bunch of people like me (prior B.S., LVN with 1+ years experience & good grades) and you may be out of luck. Hang in there, I'm not one of your competitors. ?

I have the same science grades as you and i got an 84% on the Teas. I work in a hospital and have an AA degree along with volunteer hours. I haven't had ANY luck with schools here in the SoCal area.

First time applicant? Acceptances are kinda spotty

i thought you said you were 1% short of getting an A in anatomy. Did you petition a grade change or you didn't read your transcript grade correctly?

On my blackboard it said i got an 89%, went onto to see my unofficial transcript and there was the 'A'

It depends on the type of program. If it’s a point system it might hurt your chances but if it’s a waitlist and you just need a minimum gpa then you’re fine. Just score really high on the TEAS.
