For those that live/have interviewed, etc. in NV, is this article accurate? If so, why don't they recruit more in the Midwest...if they do, I'd be taking them up on their offers for sure...

This is happening all over the country.............just some states are more vocal about it. There are offers being made by almost every facility in this country. There are only so many places that they can go to recruit.

Are you still thinking of moving here? I thought I saw a post where you said something about Alaska.

The school also is seeking state approval to offer an undergraduate degree in allied health, which Bentley said is a precursor to a nursing degree.
In addition to offering a licensed professional nurse degree, the school will add technical certifications in high-demand areas such as kidney dialysis and respiratory therapy -- specialties that "make a nurse worth more money," Barker said.
Thought I'd highlight a couple interesting passages from the aforementioned news item...

Where I work there Is a $5000 bonus for experienced nurses in several areas AND a $5000 relocation bonus. The article is for real. I am a new grad, and I still received up to a $2000 relocation bonus. another place offered a $2000 sign on bonus, also.
haha..sorry pie. No, I don't think I'd ever choose Alaska. I like the warm sunshine far too much. Thanks for asking though.

Hi there. I am about to finish up my RN program in December and am looking at moving to Las Vegas after graduation. Does anyone know what the bonuses are that some of the hospitals are offereing?
At my hospital I will get a total of $2300 in sign-on bonus. It's broken down over a period of time. I did not have to sign a contract for employment for receiving this bonus because of the way it's paid out.
I didn't think so, but I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes :). Are you still coming to Las Vegas? Good luck with everything!
When you all are ready to move here; give me and IM and I will give you all the details of Mountainview and who the nurse recruiter is there.
(See previous post about bonuses)

If you're interested, I know that the Army Reserve is also offering a $15,000 signing bonus and/or $50,000 of educational loan repayment. Several people I know have taken this up as an option. You end up finding (or staying with) a normal hospital/medical center and live in Nevada but join the Army Reserve as an RN. They require a BSN or that you have an ADN and be working in critical care. I do know they require that your education be from an NLN or CCNE accredited program. I think you have to be ideologically inclined to caring for our soldiers for this to be a worthwhile pursuit, but I think they are an extremely deserving patient population.
Oh yes, but I'd rather not live in Vegas - maybe find something 30-60 miles out of the city. Anyone have any recommendations? Could I do this kind of commute and work in the city or is traffic just too bad?
505 - I sent you a pm awhile ago...did you get it?
