  1. Thanks for responding, but no...isn't there a law term - kinda like the Miranda rights? I'm sure of it....I just can't remember the term - court orders that they are to be given their meds.
  2. Hello everyone - So I've got a question for you. After graduating and passing boards in June of 06, I went to work in a corporate job where they wanted my nursing knowledge. Anyway, having never worked on the floor, I'm contemplating taking a mental health nursing position, working just weekends - well, I'm interviewing on Jan 2, so wish me luck there. Having been out of school and not practicing on the floor, I have a few questions. First, I'm trying like heck to remember the term for court ordered passing of involuntary meds (forced meds, basically). Anyone help me out there? Second, do you guys know if there is a demand around the country for mental health nursing, should I decide to pick up and move in a few years? I tried the med/surg route, but hospitals won't touch me bc I only want weekend work (as I can't make it to any kind of orientation due to my corporate 9-5 job). Thoughts anyone?
  3. I think it's 7:1. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
  4. Thanks for the responses everyone. I appreciate the insight.
  5. I know for a *fact* this 'urban legend' is indeed true. I work with a woman from Vietnam and she informed me her family has 'flipped' their restaurant 3 times to avoid paying taxes. That's 21 years w/o paying taxes. It's too easy for someone (uh hum..you?) to do a google search and post some silly link. Please, before you post something like that, look for a credible source. I consider my source credible - I work with her and I'm friends with her.
  6. It's nice to see that you have settled down from your initial attack. However, I cannot agree with much of what you have said in this post. Rather than go on and on and on about each comment I disagree with, I'd just like to pose a few questions: At what point do we say we have provided enough support to someone who is asking for it? What is wrong with asking someone to work for something instead of just handing it to them with no strings attached? Instead of handing them a check or a place to live, why not a contract instead? A contract that says, for example, you have 90 days to get on your feet - we will provide you with xyz, but in return you must spend 20 hrs a week offering community service in places that need the help and the other 20 hrs a week looking for a self-sustaining job. Do we give everyone not from this country the ability to simply show up on our shores, regardless of criminal history, and hand them a place to live, a stipend to pay for food and clothes, and a 7yr tax break? Do we continue to provide food, clothing and shelter to everyone that arrives from another state regardless of their background. Are you implying that we should be fine with letting someone come from, say Illinois, or Iowa, or California, or any other state, with a violent or sexual criminal background, and hand them all of the same benefits we offer every other person seeking assistance? Where do we draw the line? I'm sick and tired of paying the way for thugs, thieves, and sexual predators. Aren't you?
  7. Hello everyone - After 2 long years in an ADN program, I graduate May 9, have my house sold, and I'm ready, willing, and able to move to and work in Nevada (I'm still working on the fingerprinting, etc.). I'm concentrating within 90 miles of the Las Vegas area. As a new grad, what do others who have been here suggest? I'd like to work in Tele, Cardiac, or ER. I realize with no experience, this may be difficult, but I'm *ready!* to work. Anyone want to either: A. Offer me a job? B. Provide ideas on finding that first job? I have searched many hospital websites but have not yet applied for fear of being lost in the 'online blackhole'.
  8. You were quick to edit your thread. Here's what you originally wrote, in part: "Are you really in the right profession? I hear a real sense of selfishness and lack of empathy towards others. I bet you listen to KSTP fascist radio from the tone of your post and you are echoing their talking points. " Fascist radio? A comment like that tells me, make that *everyone*, a great deal about you. Selfish and lack of empathy? Come, please come, and live in my shoes for an hour, a day, a week. Minnesota taxes are a way we lend a helping hand to anyone who asks for it. I'm curious - don't you see anything amiss with the phrase 'Illegal immigrants'? If you don't, please look up the word 'illegal'.
  9. Have you seen the news lately? Two murders in a week downtown during prime time hours, with lights and crowds. In one, the murderer confronted a family and demanded money. They gave the murderer their money - and what do they get? Shot in the head. And this past weekend - some punk sits in nacho cheese at a movie theatre, gets angry, and starts shooting into a crowd outside - hits a guy in the head. If that doesn't raise any alarms, I don't know what will. Murderapolis is back.
  10. Yep, and if you like to gamble, you can take wagers on whether or not you'll be shot before, during or after visiting the bars downtown. Minneapolis is now referred to as 'Murderapolis'.
  11. Hello Arizonians. I will be graduating in 5 short weeks, and I'm about to start gathering steam for a job search (new RN). I was initially looking to work in Nevada, but I thought I'd widen my options and include Arizona. I'm looking for a smallish community where housing prices aren't through the roof. I prefer a simple lifestyle, and really look forward to the hot weather as I'm a born and raised Minnesotan. I honestly don't know where to begin my search. Can anyone provide any kind of recommendations as far as a search or resources to use? I've been surfing the web, but I haven't found the right tools to better my search results. I'm also on the fence as to whether to use some kind of recruiter or just go it alone. Thanks for any opinions or suggestions.
  12. Thanks Suzanne. I think I'm all set. I'm going to sit for the AZ license in May and work in AZ, with the hope of picking up hours in NV as well.
  13. Thanks but I was under the impression that there was a way where if I were to hold an AZ license and wanted to work in NV simultaneously, I wouldn't have to apply for 'endorsement', but instead was simply able to work in NV as well. I plan on living on the border of AZ and NV, therefore all of my silly questions.
  14. I have searched both the NV and AZ state board sites and can't find the answer to this simple question. If I were to obtain an AZ license, would I be allowed to practice in NV as an RN w/o having to go applying for certification? A friend at school mentioned this, and I'd like to confirm if it's true. I'd rather just sit for one test and not have to worry about applying to work in both states if that's possible.
