Is this really true about employment in NV?

Published

For those that live/have interviewed, etc. in NV, is this article accurate? If so, why don't they recruit more in the Midwest...if they do, I'd be taking them up on their offers for sure...

Oh yes, but I'd rather not live in Vegas - maybe find something 30-60 miles out of the city. Anyone have any recommendations? Could I do this kind of commute and work in the city or is traffic just too bad?

505 - I sent you a pm awhile ago...did you get it?

Boulder City is not too far. I live in Henderson, and it takes me about 10-15 minutes to get to Boulder City. Good luck.

This is happening all over the country.............just some states are more vocal about it. There are offers being made by almost every facility in this country. There are only so many places that they can go to recruit.

I am from Iowa and we are looking into moving out there somewhere in or around LV, is there really jobs out there for new RN grads and for LPNs. I would like to get some ideas all help would be wonderful. :specs: Thanks

There is a website ...http://www.nvnurses.com I am moving out there soon too and requested the relocation guide from this site and have had many recruiters call me.

I have recently quit this job. After 3 weeks, I could see why there was a $2300 sign-on bonus.

Pie - I'm not sure I understand. Why did you quit?

Where I work there Is a $5000 bonus for experienced nurses in several areas AND a $5000 relocation bonus. The article is for real. I am a new grad, and I still received up to a $2000 relocation bonus. another place offered a $2000 sign on bonus, also.

Where do you work?

I have read some horrible stories about understaffing. How poor the doctors are. Give more info.

Decided against it.

I started off with a preceptor who was less than ideal. After speaking to the manager about my concerns, I was told that I would get a new preceptor. 2 1/2 weeks later, I still did not have one, and the manager never once approached me to let me know what was going on. There was a charge nurse who said she would precept me, but the manager said she could not because she was charge. However, that very day, I was put with the charge nurse of my unit, who also had another orientee (the 2 of us had 5 patients between us), charge nurse duties, and 7 patients of her own (an assignment that she had to take while waiting for another nurse to show up and take over the assignment). Another time I was put with this charge nurse. Either I can or cannot train with a charge nurse, that's how I see it. It should not be ok one day, and not ok the next day.

There was no teamwork amongst the nurses or CNA's. I suspect it was because everyone was busy. The nurses get 7 patients and CNA's get like 15-19 each. A lot of the nurses are trying to get the place unionized, in hopes of decreasing the patient load to 6:1. The unit just functioned poorly. I think I started off on the wrong foot, and things just did not get better. So I left.

Thanks for the info pie. Sorry it didn't work out. Do you care to share the name of the facility? I'll be looking in May, and would like to steer well clear of that situation. Thanks again.

Hello Pie 123,

I understand your situation was indeed difficult and stressful. You gave it an honest attempt, so look at the silver lining to this cloud. You did not waste your time at a facility that did not value you as an employee or make an honest attempt to meet your needs. Please do not get too discouraged, there will be another job out there for you. Good luck.
