We have an RN on the floor that i work with, we went to nursing school together, graduated last year and both got hired on the same floor. She is super sweet, but not exactly the brightest bulb in the tanning bed.
And i don't know why anyone has not said anything about this to her, but she is ALWAYS wearing sunglasses on the top of her head INDOOR at work.
like a real pair of designer sunglasses, on top of her head. and she is always adjusting them...so clearly she does not just forget they are there. But why on earth would someone wear sunglasses on the top of their head at work? (i work on a med/surg unit).
I addressed it once with a CNA i've been best friends with since childhood, just casually brought up in conversation OUTSIDE of work. She didnt think it was that weird and stated "she is just showing her personality"
I don't get why anyone else just does not think it is weird or no one has said anything. I dont think its some eye disorder where she needs sunglasses at certain points because ive never actually seen them on her face, EVER. and i've known her all through college.
Sorry it just bugs me!

LMAO, ok............lots of disclaimers there.
"addressed (instead of just saying you were talking about it), with someone I've been best friends with since childhood (doesn't matter........if you rob a bank with a stranger or a BFF, you still robbed a bank), outside work (hmmm, nice, in caps even)."
I think, judging by your overkill on disclaimers, you already know what people are going to say. I can list a few for you:
1. "Gossiping about her won't help, if you can't ask her directly then......................how important is it really?"
2. "If you put her down, even though it was with a friend, everyone else will too and that doesn't help at all (with a metaphor or two about crushing young girls spirits and crumbling flowers thrown in).
3. "Don't be catty, so many nurses are, just let it be unless she is hurting someone." Oh, and of course.........
4. "I wear sunglasses at work. Its my right. I'm every bit the nurse you are. I've manually massaged three hearts all at the same time and still managed to leave on time blah blah". But, can't leave out.............
5. "OMG, where is your compassion, what if she has a medical condition. My neighbor's best friend's dog's former owner has to keep sunglasses on her head at all times because.................................."
There. Got them outta the way.
Only thing I have to say about it, honestly, is that "it takes all kinds to make the world go round." How's that for a cliche? But seriously, I have a very strange sense of humor that often gets me in trouble. There are also times when everyone on the unit REFUSES a certain pt. for this/that reason and I'm the only one left who can tolerate them long term. I'm sure this nurse version of a Miller Lite commercial will find out on her own if the glasses are a good idea or not. If the patients like it, eh..........w/e. If they don't, there will be enough complaints very shortly to get the manager moving on telling her to take them off.

I occasionally forget about my sunglasses and accidentally leave them on my head. I suppose it may not be professional because it potentially gives the impression that one can't wait to get the hell outta there. Really though, it's not that big of a deal, it's like chewing gum at work...not 100% professional but it ultimately doesn't hurt anyone and with understaffing, lay offs, and unsafe practices, etc it's not an issue that's worth investing in.

I am a little lost.
Are you asking if her wearing the fashion sun glasses indoors is professional or
how much this bothers you and you judging her for wearing them is professional ?
I guess either way just let it be as in live and let live.
LOL. IDK why, but as I was reading your post, the thread that was up not to long ago came to mind:
"Nurses can be sexy and smart too".
That thread bothered me for some unknown reason. What was the point? Lawyers can be funny and dance too. Accountants can be gothics and run fast too................................who cares?

I don't see what sunglasses and professional have to do with each other. Don't you have your own business that you could be minding?
I really don't want to turn this into a post about what i should or shouldnt have done outside work- because that isnt the point of this thread, but i will say this:
I never gossiped about her with my friend "Oh my gosh i cant believe ____ wears sunglasses at work, what a total loser!"...no, it wasnt like that. i just simply asked one day if she thought it was odd. Then the discussion ended.
Hey
Don't apologize for expressing your thoughts. It's actually refreshing to see newer grads that grasp the concept of what being a professional encompasses

Honestly, I don't understand why you are that concerned about what she wears! If she likes wearing them and it isn't hurting anyone, it is her business. There are probably things you wear that she doesn't like!
