  1. You can purchase Hurst online and watch the videos at your convenience rather that attending a live review.
  2. During my first interview, the NM was aware that I was a new grad. She acknowledged my grocery experience and said that she knew many of my answers would come from that experience. I was very relieved! I had quick answers for all of the questions she asked. She was fine with the answers being about my grocery experience because hospitals are focusing more on patient satisfaction (aka customer service) and that's what the grocery store focuses on also. And, surprisingly, much of what I learned about management in nursing school is the same as what they want at the grocery. I ended up getting offered that job but before I got the offer, I interviewed at another facility where the NM flat out told me that the skills could be taught but they're looking for someone who is able to provide service and satisfaction. I still can't get over the fact that these NMs were SO interested in my customer service background. [Did I get off subject?] OH- the point is... talk about the experience you DO have and impress them with that. Please don't lie!
  3. I read somewhere that your pulse ox wouldn't be calibrated and checked with those on the unit therefore you couldn't use it. idk though...
  4. relax while you can!
  5. I took NCLEX at 8 am and did questions til 11 the night before. I even studied notecards in the car before I went in for the test. I don't recommend this but the point is this: do what makes you feel good! Good luck! :)
  6. When I started out in college, I was more interested in partying and friends than my GPA. By the time I was eligible to apply for nursing school, I didn't because I knew I wouldn't be accepted (my GPA was 2.9 which was above the minimum requirement [2.5] but the program was very competitive and most people applying had over a 3.0, according to the advisors). Anyway, I didn't apply and changed my major to Sociology. I absolutely LOVED my sociology classes but I knew that I never planned on using it as a career. I graduated with a BA in Sociology and then immediately began finishing my prereqs in another city/school. Then, I was accepted, started and finished nursing school. While I knew I was no where near mentally prepared to be in nursing school at the time of my change of major, now I'm left with the debt of a sociology degree and a nursing degree. I'm sorry this is happening to you but I don't know if there's any point in getting another degree if nursing is what you want. Good luck! :redbeathe
  7. During my first degree, I had three different roommates in a dorm. The first ended up being one of my best college friends. The second was great but we don't really keep in touch. The third stole my check book and credit cards! lol! I think it's definitely an experience everyone should at least try out. That being said, I was never in nursing school during these times. But, as long as you know you will be studying elsewhere, go for it!
  8. i cried! and then got on my knees (literally)! I sent my mom an inconspicuous text, signed Lauren, SN. She was like, "What's an SN?" lol
  9. So is it alright to call them Ms. FirstName? Or only right to say Ms. LastName? My cousins (from NY) tease me (from the South) for this saying Ms. FirstName while they say Ms. LastName. :) I guess if I continue to live in the South I can say Ms. FirstName but if I relocated, I'll use Ms. LastName...no?
  10. I didn't want to tell my peers that I got hired at first because I was scared of that reaction. Good luck to you!
