Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?

I really want to work at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I work nearby and I love the area. I'm not a nurse but I'm studying to be a nurse and I want to start at CHOP to get my foot in the door. Every nurse that I know that works at CHOP appears to be happy. It seems so hard to GET IN. Is it possible to work at CHOP?

I don't recall exactly how far in advance my shadow day was scheduled, or if a month is "the norm," but from what I understand the offer of a shadow day is nearly as good as a job. The actual experience is more for your benefit than theirs. I was offered my job a few days after my shadow day.

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread... but I have a question for anyone who has interviewed at CHOP. I had my interview about a week ago. I was told at the end of that interview I was going to be contacted for a shadow day. Well she emailed me the shadow dates to choose from and they were all a month away.... I was just wondering if that was pretty much the norm. And I was also wondering how long after the shadow you were informed of their decision to hire or not. I'm just trying not to read too much into anything or stress out. Thanks for the help!

Yes. I have heard that it could sometimes take months (from time you apply to get the job) before you are actually hired at the hospital. Getting a shadow day is great news! You should probably here back in 1- 2 weeks after your shadow day. I would ask them when you could expect to hear back from them. Good Luck!!!

I interviewed at the end of February and didn't do my shadow day until like 3 weeks after my interview. And I would say that I was hired about a week to 2 weeks after my shadow day. Good luck!! What unit??

Thanks for your answers! I'm going to be shadowing on the NICU. Where do you work? And how has the orientation process been?

I have an interview soon at CHOP.. does anyone have any advice or insight into the questions they ask?

Will CHOP hire new grads? I would love to work there but all the positions listed require experience

Hi Everyone! sorry to bring up an older post. I am also very interested in the NICU at CHOP and I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on the hiring status of new graduates? Any advice would greatly be appreciated :)!

At the moment, I happen to know that the NICU (and PICU) are having staffing issues because of the hospital's acuity and general census. We NEED nurses... sure, a new nurse would have to be oriented, but (while I cannot speak directly for the NICU, since I'm a PICU nurse) we're always hiring new grads. So give it a shot, and good luck!

Thank you so much for the information Scooby484k! :)

I have put in my application a couple of months ago and I have been attempting to contact HR frequently to check on the status of my application. Otherwise, I am running out of ideas on how to further reach out for an opportunity in critical care with CHOP. I'm trying my best and hoping for some feedback!

scooby---- Im interviewing for the PICU this week!! can you tell me some characteristics that the PICU is looking for in their nurses? any interviewing advice? I really love that it has such a high acuity and fast paced environment because that is the environment I feel that I work best in. Any advice for shining in my interview will be greatly appreciated:nurse:

I posted on this very topic November 2009 in this same thread... scan through the posts to check it out.

Does anybody know about the CHOP Pipeline interview days this April? I was invited to choose 1 of 2 days to interview with nurse recruitment and learn about working at CHOP. My issue is that I do not live near Philly at all, and although it is my dream to work there.... is this interview an indication of possible employment? What happens after this interview? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!:)
