Is it possible to get a job at CHOP?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

I really want to work at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I work nearby and I love the area. I'm not a nurse but I'm studying to be a nurse and I want to start at CHOP to get my foot in the door. Every nurse that I know that works at CHOP appears to be happy. It seems so hard to GET IN. Is it possible to work at CHOP?

I actually got in touch with the nurse recruiter. Good luck!

I'm going to be graduating in May and am looking for the best way to contact a Nurse Recruiter from CHOP. Does anyone have the phone number to contact them, it would be a great help?

So I have had a phone interview with the nurse recuiter and unit manager type individual, then gone in for an interview formally with the nurse recruiter and on the unit, and done a "shadow day" on the unit. I felt like I really had the job, but upon leaving they just said they'd "be in contact" and didn't give me any idea of how I did or how long to wait to hear from them etc? I am very anxious about it! Does anyone have any idea of where I go from here? All you guys who have posted recently are probably in this process right now too... anyone get any closer? GOOD LUCK =) Hope you all got or will be getting the job!:heartbeat

HI Leesh! Congrats on making it so far through their "system"!! That's a great sign that you had a shadow day. I would contact the nurse recruiter that you dealt with to ask them if they have any idea when you'll hear. They should be able to give you some information and it'd be better to "bug" them then to ask the managers.

What floor did you interview on? I have an interview this upcoming friday and am getting nervous!!

Hi Meg! Best of luck!! I interviewed for a NICU position. I'm not sure why I didn't get it. I am a new grad and am from Boston. I thought I did a good job, it was my first interview. They seem to be accepting of new grads if you are a new grad too! I am not cleared to take my boards until Feb. and live in Boston, so maybe they thought I would need to much time to move down and take my boards, they just said they chose a "canidate who can meet their needs at this time". VERY SAD =( My boyfriend lives in Mt. Laurel NJ so we thought this would finally be the end of our long distance, guess not! It was kinda my dream job but I know everything happens for a reason!

What floor are you interviewing on? They ask you lots of behavioral questions like "name a mistake you've made at work" or "name a time at work you felt frustrated". Just have lots of examples from your clinical experience that you can cite. Maybe I should have expressed more about the importance of "family centered care" because they are big on that, as well as patient advocacy for the kids =) I would also kinda just know stuff about the hospital because when they asked me why CHOP I didn't have the quickest answer besides it's number one in the country. So maybe search the website and know some reasons why CHOP. Don't be nervous! BE CONFIDENT! I hope you get it and BEST OF LUCK! And if you have any more suggestions on NICU positions in Philly let me know! Or any more questions!!! GO YOUUU =) It's a really cool place with lots of diversity of patients and cool cases! I will cross my fingers for you!

Thanks for response, Leesh, I'm bummed that you didn't get the job!! I'm sure you'll find something thats perfect for you. I too am interviewing in NICU. Thank you for the tips on interview questions. I'm getting pretty nervous.

What was your shadow day like? Did they pair you with a nurse and just have you watch? how long were you there for? I'm just hoping I'll get the opportunity to shadow.

Thanks! I'm bummed too! I did my internship in the #2 NICU in the country which is here in Boston at Brigham and women's. They loved me but take no new grads and said come back in a year or so. I'd hate to waste all the skills I now have/learned from being in a NICU.

The shadow day is part of the interview! So you will get one. You wear your scrubs and are paired with a nurse on the unit. You just follow him/her around from 7-1. You don't really do pt care, i got a chance to feed a baby haha but thats it. They don't even watch you, maybe they ask the RN how you did later. It's nice and you will love the unit. The nurses are very kind! You will have a great experience

Hey LoriNJ. My interview with the nurse recruiter went well and then I got an interview with the PICU manager. I just had my interview with the manager this week and I feel that it might be hard to get that position because she said that she has a lot more applicants to interview. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Did you get any interviews lately? Good luck to all the others trying to find a job. I know it is hard but hopefully all of us gets employed soon!

How did your interview go Meg!? I was crossing my fingers for you!!!!!!!!!

Hi leesh.. thanks!! I think it went OK. I was a little nervous and it showed. I just want it so badly!! Either way I have a shadow day in the next couple weeks and I guess ill hear from there. I wish they wouldn't have u shadow unless hey were seriously considering you. But I know you and another person who shadowed and didn't get an offer.

Keep your fingers crossed for me! I need all the good luck and prayers possible!

Oops double post.. sorry!

I GOT THE JOB AT CHOP!!!!!!!!! Just wanted to update everyone here. It is possible :) :)
