I really want to work at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. I work nearby and I love the area. I'm not a nurse but I'm studying to be a nurse and I want to start at CHOP to get my foot in the door. Every nurse that I know that works at CHOP appears to be happy. It seems so hard to GET IN. Is it possible to work at CHOP?

Yeah!! Congrats!!:yeah::up:

YESSSSSSSS! so happy for you!!! please tell me about the awesome experiences u have at some point!!!!!!!!!!!! congrats x 1000000000000000000!!!!!!!! lots of luck and have an awesome career! im so happy to hear good news! :D

Im still looking =( I take my boards next month!

I was just wondering how long after you shadowed at CHOP did you hear that you got the job? I am too shadowing in the PICU tomorrow and want the position so badly but am extremely nervous.

I heard a little less than a week after my shadow. Shadowing is a good sign. Im not sure about the picusturn aroind though... Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

I got the position!!! My shadow day was awesome and I was offered the position a week later. I start orientation either May 3rd or June 14th depending on when they hire more people. I'm so pumped but still can't believe its happening!!!

Wow I'm in amazement at the way this thread has taken off over the last two years. Congratulations to all of the nurses that have received jobs. When I originally created this post, I was referring to non-nursing jobs. But I'm really glad it's been beneficial for some of you seeking RN positions. Would anyone happen to know if the Nursing Recruiters also handle the Patient Representative positions?

Ling07,

I worked at CHOP through school as, what is now called a 'patient service rep' and a 'Senior Nursing Assistant' and then just had to do a department transfer when I graduated. Working in various departments in the hospital gave me a great opportunity to check things out to see where I would (and would not) like to work as an RN. When I graduated, I worked on the oncology unit. It was a great experience and the hospital has a great orientation program for new grads.

Hope this helps. Oopps. I see the orginal post was May '08. Hopefully, you're already working here!

If not, check out the positions on their website www.chop.edu

Good Luck!

Hi I recently got married and am moving to Philly suburbs. I have been working at a children's hospital in a general med-surg and heme-onc floor for the past year. I am interested in an Oncology position at CHOP. I want to continue working in pediatrics, and I know it is an amazing hospital. I applied online but haven't heard anything back. Any advice on what I should do next? I volunteered at their Oncology unit awhile ago and loved the atmosphere and team work I witnessed between the various staff. Thanks! :nurse:

tm382,

I have worked at CHOP for 3 years and I love it with all my heart, but I will say that HR is not great at getting back to people. I had to call a few times after submitting my online application to get an interview. I would definitely start there. It's great that you have volunteered - in general, it's been tough to get a position lately at CHOP unless you have been a student or extern there. However, I happen to know that onco was recently looking to hire because they've been understaffed. Some of my co-workers have been putting in overtime there until their new staff is oriented. It would be a great time to try to get your foot in! Good luck!

Thank you jmed07RN so much for replying. I have already called them twice so far. The first recruiter I talked to said that she would pass my resume and profile to the nurse manager. The second one I talked to said that it takes 3 weeks for them to look at my resume and if I meet their requirement; they will contact me. Are there certain nurse recruiters that recruit for certain floors or do they all recruit for hospital in general? Should I still keep calling and trying until I get an interview? It feels like everytime I call there is a different nurse recruiter I talk to, so it is somewhat confusing.

I finally got an interview with the Oncology floor! I absolutely loved the Oncology unit! I really hope I hear back from them with positive news! :) The nurse educator I worked with loves CHOP Oncology floor and actually knows who I interviewed with! I hope they loved me as much as she and my other current coworkers do! Keeping my fingers crossed and praying for the best! Thank you all for you inputs and advice.

I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread... but I have a question for anyone who has interviewed at CHOP. I had my interview about a week ago. I was told at the end of that interview I was going to be contacted for a shadow day. Well she emailed me the shadow dates to choose from and they were all a month away.... I was just wondering if that was pretty much the norm. And I was also wondering how long after the shadow you were informed of their decision to hire or not. I'm just trying not to read too much into anything or stress out. Thanks for the help!
