  1. I don't think my case is the norm, but I applied in April of last year. I was finally called for an interview for August last year. Had a shadow day 3 weeks later in September. Then I was finally told in October they liked me during the interview, but could only hire one person at the present time (the spot was for November). Nurse recruiter told me she would be in contact if anything became available. Then I finally got a call in December offering me a position for February. I start next week. So from start to finish for me was about 6 months. Talk about a long wait!
  2. I'm not sure how that job market is where you are living, but where I am at, unless you have a job already lined up after school, it could take you six months to even get an interview. So if it was me I would definitely look for a job.
  3. Eyeball- your comment is too funny!!! haha!!!
  4. I just want to say thank you to the OP. I'm going to be starting a RN position in February and reading your post was a breath of fresh air. I know that the first year is going to be hard as SO many people have stated. But your positive spin on working through your first 6 months is so uplifting. It was nice to finally read a post that gave a positive outlook on starting out. You are very lucky to have so much support around you! And congrats on surviving your first 6 months!!! And to the person who posted all those negative thoughts shouldn't have commented at all in my opinion.... So i'm choosing to ignore that part :)
  5. So I'm curious... which position did you accept?
  6. Hi everyone. I'm a new RN and want to join one of the many nursing organizations out there. I guess I was just wondering what you all belong to and the pros and cons to some of them. Thanks!
  7. Thanks for your answers! I'm going to be shadowing on the NICU. Where do you work? And how has the orientation process been?
  8. I don't know if anyone is still reading this thread... but I have a question for anyone who has interviewed at CHOP. I had my interview about a week ago. I was told at the end of that interview I was going to be contacted for a shadow day. Well she emailed me the shadow dates to choose from and they were all a month away.... I was just wondering if that was pretty much the norm. And I was also wondering how long after the shadow you were informed of their decision to hire or not. I'm just trying not to read too much into anything or stress out. Thanks for the help!
  9. Wow.... thanks for your help! Those are some really good suggestions. I really like the idea of a notepad with notes for myself. When I'm nervous it's very easy for me to lose my train of thought. A few keywords will definitely help! No wonder you got the job! Thanks again!!!!!!
  10. Hi everyone, I'm new here. I finally have my first interview for a RN position one year after graduating! So needless to say I'm a little nervous and I don't want to mess anything up. Does anyone have any advice? Are there any questions asked at your interview that caught you off guard? Although a little unrealistic, I want to be prepared for everything.... Thanks for your help!
