Thanks for the replies! I've decided to start looking for positions outside the hospital but I won't quit my job until I'm offered something. I hope it gets better meanwhile, I will keep you guys posted.

Hey, I'm always lurking here so decided to post my dilemma to see what you guys think. Sorry it's so long. I have been a nurse altogether for a year now. My first job I had to move to another state because finding work in my home state as a new grad nurse is almost impossible. I started on a busy med-surg floor with 5-6 patients per nurse but I absolutely hated the job! I hated my unit and also hated the new city I was living in. I was soon offered a position in a hospital in my home state and decided to take it so I can move back home, so after 7 months I left my first job. I am now working in a very busy med-surg/oncology unit with 8 to 10 patients per nurse and have been there now for 5 months and once again I absolutely hate my job. I now have realized that I hate med-surg and/or bed-side nursing. This is not for me. I thought with the first job I was just home sick and if I came back I'd be ok but now that I am working in a hospital near home, I've realized that I cannot work in med-surg. I'm so overwhelmed at work, constantly crying, I literally begin to feel sick on the days I know I have to work, I just can't deal anymore. I want to go into clinic nursing, I feel I will be more comfortable in this setting however I'm afraid of pursuing this because I'm afraid I'll look like a "job-hopper" since I've only spent a matter of months at 2 jobs within the past year. What do you guys think? Should I stick it out with my current job so it doesn't look like I bounce from job to job or should I go ahead and try applying for some clinics anyway where I'm sure I'll be happier?

kristen75- I'm not sure if they hire ADNs, I applied by submitting my resume maybe about 1-2 weeks later I was called for an interview and hired on the spot. Within a week, I had to take the pharm exam so everything happened fairly quickly I think. ArmstrongLPN- the pharm test was not bad at all, the study guide they give you, study that. I only studied that guide and I passed. It was 20 med math questions which werent too hard and 20 questions about specific meds and all the meds they asked about were on the study guide. You have to get an 80% on each part of the test to pass and I believe if you fail the first time you have 1 more chance to take it. Good luck :)

Im so desperate now at this point I would even pay someone to put in a good word for me in a hospital in nyc lol. Can any of you guys tell me anywhere in NYC/LI that is hiring? I'm a new nurse and have applied EVERYWHERE and have had only 2 interviews and no job offers. I don't know what to do, relocating is not an option for me so I have to find something in the nyc area. There has to be a hospital, clinic, etc willing to hire a new grad nurse. Any info on anywhere hiring would be greatly appreciated. Also would anyone be willing to look at my resume? Ive had people look at my resume and cover letter and havent had much feedback on them but I'm beginning to wonder if something is wrong with my resume? maybe someone can help?! Thanks guys.

siegolindoRN, the new full time slots are for the ED? is there any other units hiring? I only have 4 months exp right now on a med-surg unit, what can I do to increase my chances of getting an interview? I'd appreciate it any info you can pm me if you like, thanks!
