  1. Hey thanks for the heads up. I actually wound up not taking the position. Good to get someones point of view though.
  2. Aside from the dangerous(?) neighborhood and the problems with being in arrears with 1199 anyone have any experience working at Brookdale ? Ive heard not so great things about it. So whats the story?
  3. Hello all. I am about to go into my 3rd interview for a position at a big hosp in NYC. I already interviewed with HR and the nurse manager of the department. I was asked all the many behavioral questions along with some clinical knowledge and judgement questions. I was expecting an offer or a no thank you but now I am interviewing with the director of nursing for the dept. At this point I am not sure what to expect. What else could they want to know? Any help is appreciated.
  4. Bump - maybe i should of been more specific. Id Just like to hear what your experience was interviewing at this facility. I searched the site but i couldn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. Looking for any help from anyone who has interviewed for a MS or ED position at Langone. Any help appreciated.
  6. I dont understand the responses. I know the market is hard right now but why should that stop me from looking ahead in my career? After a year or so I would be experienced in the eyes of most hospitals. I was just looking to see the opinions of anyone who have gone from a small to a big pond.
  7. I will echo the other replies. Apply out of town, small hospitals in small towns/cities are more new grad friendly. I am from nyc but i wound up upstate 300 miles away. You can come back after you have exp.
  8. Some background. I graduated in January with my BSN and passed my boards in March. I was hired at a hospital to work at the ED way upstate New York. So I moved out of NYC to work there. While I like the hospital it is in a small town and the pay doesn't compare to what I would be making as an RN in NYC. They already gave me classes in Tele and I have my ACLS and taking TNCC/CATN classes in a few months. I also intend on becoming an ACLS instructor to pad my resume. I am finishing my 3 months orientation on the med/surg floor in a few weeks then I go work down at the ED. I was wondering if I should do a full year at the ED and start looking after or if I should just go ahead and look for work in NYC once I get my 9 months down in the ED. ( this will make it a whole year of me being there ). I am not sure what my next move should be other than i know I should stay there and get some experience. Advice from any seasoned nurses is appreciated.
  9. Start thinking of hospitals outside nyc, like towns around Syracuse and Rochester. Then reapply when you have some chops. Thats what im going to do.
  10. Dont feel bad wannabe. This is the world we are living in now, new nurses will have to suffer more before it all comes together now thats all. I DID score a hospital job but i have to move away from NYC to a town 5 hours away. I wont have any family or friends in ill be living in some tiny town. You need to earn experience somehow and sometimes that means hard choices.
  11. Hello all. This might be a strange question but here it goes. I interviewed for a hospital in Brooklyn, NY a few months back and though i think the interview went well i was told they cant hire because they have to absorb the St. Vincents nurses. I heard from a friend who works there that they are currently looking for new nurses because people heave been and will be leaving. My question is , should i even bother trying to see if i can get another chance at an interview? If so how should i go about it? I wouldn't even know how to write a cover letter stating that i have interviewed before and i want another chance. Anyone been in this situation? Any help is appreciated. thanks all.
