pamphlets
Hello all! I am opening my office for the new year and of course I am focusing on silly, trivial things right now instead of the important stuff. I have this pamphlet case that is mounted to the wall in front of where the kids sit. At the end of last school year I dumped the pamphlets that were in it because they were dusty and very outdated. Now it's empty and I am having trouble finding replacements. Do any of you have a good spot to get pamphlets? I work in a middle school (6-8). Happy school year everyone!! :)

Are there any Volunteer/Internship opportunities in NJ for new RNs?
Where do you live in nj? I know the hospital is what all new grads want (that was me a little over a year ago) but it's rough out there. Try to get your foot in the door anywhere you can. I did a year in a sub-acute rehab facility in Plainsboro. I got a ton of experience and now I'm putting my resume out to hospitals and I am actually getting calls back. Best of luck, message me if you want :) -Sarah

What else is there left to do? (unemployed new grad)
Thank you so much for the responses everybody. I am seriously considering relocating. However, I do not have the money right now...I don't have any money right now, haha. Any suggestions?

What else is there left to do? (unemployed new grad)
Hey everyone! I graduated with my BSN in May and I am STILL unemployed. I have applied everywhere in NJ (hospitals, LTC, doctor's offices...everywhere). I also got my ACLS and IV certifications. I honestly don't know what there is left to do. I am so discouraged because I feel like I am doing all that I can. My student loans are creeping up, my parents are sick of my living at their house, my car has been running on empty for a week because I don't have money. At this point I'm about to give up and get a job doing anything. However, I'm worried then that if I do go back to nursing, I won't have any chance because I've been away from it for to long. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :redbeathe

Apply now or wait for RN license?
You can apply all you want but there are no jobs. I graduated in May 2010 and started looking in December 2009...still nothing.

when to start applying
I started applying in December (I graduate in May) because that is what I was told to do. HOWEVER, with the job market being so bad, most HR departments told me to wait until I have my license Sooo, i'm going to wait.

Holy Heck I am SOOO scared!
You will be fine! I remember my first day (I'm about to graduate) and I was terrified!!! After giving us the tour on our orientation day, our professor told us to go introduce ourselves to a patient. I was shaking and so nervous. I went in and after mustering up all my courage, I began to speak to the patient. After getting no response from him, his daughter turned to me and snapped "He's deaf! Duh!" Oops! Haha! Anyway, communicating with your patients gets much easier in time. As soon as I got over that hurdle, my clinical experience was a lot easier. The best advice I can give is don't be shy! You are there to help them so do what you need to do in order to accomplish that. Good luck!

I feel like I don't know anything
I am graduating in May and I am starting to freak out. I feel like I don't know anything when it comes to clinical skills. Unfortunately I got stuck with some pretty awful clinical instructors in the last two years. I rarely give meds or do any real 'nursing' work. I give my two patients bed baths, change their sheets, take vital signs and then I'm done. I am GRADUATING in a month and a half, I feel like I should be doing so much more What can I do in the meantime to develop more skills? I'm so worried I am going to get a job (maybe? haha) and not know how to do a thing and mess something up horribly. I applied to a ton of aide positions and externships last year and got nothing. Idk what to do.

Ramapo, East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg, William Patterson BSN program Info..
I am a senior in the Ramapo BSN program. I honestly do not know about the other school's programs, but I will tell you a little about Ramapo's. The nursing program is your junior and senior year. During this time, they send half of the students to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood (that's where I am) and the other half goes to Englewood Hospital. The Englewood students not only do their clinicals there, they also take their classes at the hospital. I do not have any major complaints with the nursing department. We have a beautiful classroom and hospital simulation lab. However, the forty people in your class you are stuck with for two years, so you can get kind of sick of them! haha If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer! -Sarah
