Is 31 too old to start a nursing career?

Published

Right now I'm 28 and when I finish I will be 31. I just feel like I should of been started my career. I'm so tired of beating myself up. I started back in "04" but I just didn't finish. I'm doing really good and im more focused now since I'm older. Any advice out there?:(

Specializes in Cardio-Pulmonary; Med-Surg; Private Duty.

I'll be 44yo when I get my ADN next year.

Specializes in CDI Supervisor; Formerly NICU.

I graduated at 41 with an ADN. Me AND my old socks.

I have socks that are older than 31.

Hope you washed 'em somewhere along the way...:barf01:

Lol u love them socks. For real though at least y'all did go bck and accomplish y'all goals.

Nah not at all I started at 28 from scratch in nursing and I'm still working my way up. The way I see it I know have knowledge to keep myself healthier longer so any lost time I can make up on the back end ;)

As for me - 49 y/o CNA with a prior BS in Computer Science. Doing prereqs for either an ADN or LVN, which'll put me solidly into my 50's before I hit the floor as a nurse. As opposed to hitting the floor after too many margaritas, which I can do right now!

Yes, you are too old. You'll be 31 when you graduate? That's ridiculous! You'll only have like 40 years to work. Nope, give it up. :lol2:

Of course, I'll be 49 when I graduate in two years, but that's a different story! LOL You are absolutely NOT TOO OLD! Go for it!!!

I am 47, I work as a CNA and I am going back to school now.

I started thinking about a career change at 31. I spent another 8 years miserable in my job as a research scientist. I'm so much happier with nursing that I wish I hadn't "fought" the change because I mistakenly thought I was "too old" to change careers.

Specializes in Nursing Supervisor.

Man I sure hope not, or I'm wasting my time and money! And it's too late now, I'm almost done :(

Specializes in Oncology/hematology.

It's easy to look back on your choices and wish you'd done it sooner. How are you going to feel in 10 years if you don't go for it now?

I hope 31 is not too old. I'm 37 and just finished my 1st semester lol
