If you can read, write, do math, and reason with people, you're a shoe-in. Nursing school was not difficult for me. It's all about time management and prioritization....funny...that's what nursing is too.

Actually, there's more than one course...

Nursing certainly isn't an easy major compared to many of the "light" majors. I, however, did not find it difficult so long as you stayed on top of the work.

Fundamentals of Nursing = not so bad
Nursing Skills= Not so bad
Pharmacology = borderline PITA
A&P = Easy breezy
Med/Surg = Prepare to study
Advanced Med/Surg = Prepare to study alot and critically think
OB/Pediatrics = Worst course I ever took, hated it.
You can pretty much say goodbye to your family and friends for two years. You will know the people in your clinical group more intimately than you best friends from outside school. Don't even try to work while going to nursing school. I'm doing a LVN to RN transition program right now actually. It's all worth it in the end.

First......it is a nursing degree........a four year degree in most cases these days...........not a course. and YES it is difficult you need not only brains but common sense and compassion.

You have to study a lot but the courses itself are not super hard.

i agree with this:
that the courses aren't that difficult, but the time devoted to studying, processing, and executing a boatload of information, is challenging to say the least.
you really need to be committed to working the program.
by the time you graduate, many students have either been weeded out or quit.

I agree with PP, Fundamentals of nursing isn't too bad, but Med-surg was a PITA. Out of the 16 we started with in the beginning of med-surg, there are only 9 of us moving on. You really gotta do the reading and study study study. It's so important too to know your A&P, it is the foundation for a lot of the nursing material.

That's like asking if math is a hard course to take. Well, there's elementary math where you add, subtract, multiply and divide. But as you take higher level courses you get into differentials which require a lot more studying and a lot more effort. See what I'm trying to say?

As someone already mentioned it is a degree, not just a course. You are taking multiple courses. For an Associates you will take Fundamentals, OB/Pedi, Med/Surg, and Psych. You will have both clinicals and lecture. You will also have skills labs. They are not difficult per se, but they do take up an abundance of time. Be prepared to study and if you are not already a high B or an A student, especially in your sciences, I would not recommend going into nursing. You must also be very compassionate and a people person since you will be dealing with them all day long (because even if you think "Well I can work with babies", you still have to work with the parents).
