Is Drama a Pre req?

Published

I'm a "mature" student in a one year PN program. I realize my attitude on alot of things is different than many of the students in our class. Although I'm not into the bar scenes, or weekend running, I do realize that younger students have those interests, and I don't blame them. They're young, I'm not.

But what is driving me absolutely crazy, is all the drama. Everything from who's boyfriend is doing what, who's missing class, who received a perfect score on the test... it just never ends. I try to mind my own business, and focus on what I have to deal with. But when it literally surrounds you it's hard to ignore. If this was only during breaks, it would be easy to deal with (I'd walk away), but this goes on during lecture, during study time etc. They never shut up. :uhoh3:

I've spoken to the instructors, they can't seem to control it. They do try, but in the back of the class(we have assigned seats) they don't always hear this stuff or they can't identify who is doing the talking.

I realize I'm an old fart, with older attitudes, but the drama is making me crazy. I want to say: deal with your boyfriend, or get out. Who cares who received the highest test score? Did you pass? Worry about passing, not everything else. So what if she's wore those jeans this week, who cares?

Sorry, I just needed to vent a bit. Some of these students just need to grow up , I know that. But I can just see them suctioning a patient while discussing who has the best sale on shoes.

I love drama/gossip, maybe because Im from Jersey lol I watch GH every day...the Balkin!

I hate to break it to you ... but after graduation, nursing students become nurses. You'll find a certain percentage of your professional collegues that exhibit the same behavior. The drama doesn't stop at graduation, it just moves on to the next scene.

Oh yes I do know this. But I've been dealing with these same students for 3 semesters now and I'm ready to walk in front of a very fast moving bus because of them. ;) I know there's immaturity EVERYWHERE.

Their is a handful of students in my class I hope to never see again after May 7th :|

Yep, the 21-22 year old bracket in my class does this non-stop. They're so loud too. It's three girls, and two of them are out of control.

I'm pretty young in my class and I tend to have a more mature outlook on a lot of things. So when I see my peers be "immature" in class, I separate myself. Actually, its rare that I talk to my agemates in class, WAY TOO MUCH gossip and competition. My closest friends in the program are 2 guys aged 52 and 65, married with children LOL. And they are far from old farts! They just don't peddle with useless drama and strive for As and Bs instead of my other classmates who just want to pass.
