Is 71% in Chemistry enough?

Published

Hi, I just finished the chemistry course I needed to take as a prerequisite for the practical nursing program. I got 71% in total. I am feeling disappointed because I studied so hard for my final exam which was 25 pages long, 75 questions (first half multiple choice, second half I had to write my own answers) It took me 4 hours to write that exam, it was so hard!

Anyway, I thought for sure I would've passed that exam with at least 70% and was shocked to see that I got only 55%! My teacher said at least it's a pass and she said she knows how I worked so hard for the past 6 months to get a good grade. Before I took the final exam, I was averaging around 80%! But because the final exam is 30% of my total mark, I ended up with 71% in total.

My question is, is this a high enough mark or should I redo some tests to make my mark higher? Like to get at least 75%? I was reading the admission requirements and it was written that you need at least 75%. But I don't know if this means you need to have 75% in each course or 75% average in all four courses I need to take. (Math, Biology, Chemistry, English)

So far I finished Chemistry and Math. With Math I got 84% so my teacher said that should help for sure with getting into the program. I just need to take Biology and English yet. Half way there! :)

If you have any questions, you should pose them to the advisor for the nursing program. That person is the logical individual to advise you on repeating, or not repeating, chemistry.

This seems like an extremely generous grading scale!

What grading scale is this? Lol I've never seen anything like this before!

I'm used to the:

100-90 A

89-80 B

79-70- C

69-60 D

59 and below F

grading scale.

Specializes in Public Health.

That's a standard grading system in Canada. I think it's been the same from elementary school all the way through to uni.

I'm never moving to Canada. What a ridiculously low standard.

Okay thanks! I will contact the advisor then. :)

And others might say: If that's the case, I am moving to Canada! LOL :D That's great that you like a challenge. A lot of people prefer it to be easier.

I think you'll get better responses to your questions if you post in the Canadian Forum.

Everyone in the States is a 4.0, Grade A student. Different educational system.

Having said that, nursing programmes here in AB won't take you with a 75%. It's the high 80s

I'm never moving to Canada. What a ridiculously low standard.

Our education is different. We have a broad and varied education unlike many Americans:

Specializes in hospice.

Broad and varied, fine, but that standard is still too low.

When Canada leads the world in scientific, technical, medical, and economic achievement..... then you can bash the US.

How can I find the Canadian forum? :)
