Is 71% in Chemistry enough?

Published

Hi, I just finished the chemistry course I needed to take as a prerequisite for the practical nursing program. I got 71% in total. I am feeling disappointed because I studied so hard for my final exam which was 25 pages long, 75 questions (first half multiple choice, second half I had to write my own answers) It took me 4 hours to write that exam, it was so hard!

Anyway, I thought for sure I would've passed that exam with at least 70% and was shocked to see that I got only 55%! My teacher said at least it's a pass and she said she knows how I worked so hard for the past 6 months to get a good grade. Before I took the final exam, I was averaging around 80%! But because the final exam is 30% of my total mark, I ended up with 71% in total.

My question is, is this a high enough mark or should I redo some tests to make my mark higher? Like to get at least 75%? I was reading the admission requirements and it was written that you need at least 75%. But I don't know if this means you need to have 75% in each course or 75% average in all four courses I need to take. (Math, Biology, Chemistry, English)

So far I finished Chemistry and Math. With Math I got 84% so my teacher said that should help for sure with getting into the program. I just need to take Biology and English yet. Half way there! :)

Usually every class has to be a C or better to get into a program, not a C average on all of the pre-reqs combined. If it becomes an issue for admission then just retake it, I'm sure you'll do better next time. Best of luck.

I got 71% so that means (according to the chart above) that I got a B- right?

If those are their standards then you're going to be fine! :yeah:

Yeah, I live in Ontario and these are the standards here in Ontario. :)

By this scale I've been a straight A student my whole life!!

Every school has their own scale. Some schools have even stricter standards for nursing programs.

In my graduate program, 80% is the lowest passing score; which I hear is not that unusual (at least in the US).

I grew up in Brazil. The usual passing score for most schools, some colleges was 5 out of 10 (50%). That was a few years ago admittedly.

I am totally envious of your grading scale!! At my school we need a 2.0 gpa to be considered for the program, so I suppose a D in a class would be balanced by an A (even though D's are failing). If your grade is weighted into your admission, like in a scoring, I'd consider a retake. But otherwise, I'd leave it.

Wow… 80% as the lowest passing score?! Sounds like a strict school! Where did you go to school? I don't think I would ever be accepted into that school!

So a 2.0 gpa is a C right? I am trying to find out if it's required I have 75% in each course or 75% in total of all four courses I have to take.

Wow! I want your grading scale! In my school an 80 is a C! We must have a 3.0 (B average) to continue in the program. Granted it is figured by the semester, and credit hours, but geez with your grading scale I would be at the top of my class.
