Is cheating a double standard?

Nursing Students General Students

Published

My nursing school took great measures to fix grades when not happy with outcomes. However, this nursing school took great measures to prevent students from cheating. They had a zero tolerance policy towards cheating and any students caught cheating would almost certainly be dismissed from the program. The clever, deceitful, and crooked way in which final grades were fixed at the conclusion of the final semester of the two year associates of science degree in nursing program was a grade fixing scandal of monumental proportions. I was dismissed from the program as a result of not achieving the 75 required to pass the final course of the semester only to have insider information disclose to me that 28 of 79 students initially failed the course with zero "A" students. Ultimately, only 5 unfortunate students including me were not passed and graduated and I strongly believe that I was used as a cover up by the school for their grade fixing scandal just so the school could make the outcome of the semester look realistic. Is cheating a double standard?

One is that you won a settlement. That should tell you right there that the school was in the wrong or they wouldn't have had to pay you a dime. There is no answer as to why its fair or whatever because the legal system deemed it was not fair and therefore you won your suit against them.

Actually, if there's a confidentiality clause (and if this is real...), the courts didn't decide anything. People settle out of court all the time and pay people to shut up and get out of their face even if there was no wrong-doing. Happens all the time with medical lawsuits, even. Had it gone to trial, and a jury was involved or a judge made a decision, there would be some sort of public record.

OP, I can't imagine you're even a little bit serious about this "business" of yours, but enjoy amusing yourself with the notion.

Of course, it could be about as serious as this whole lawsuit...

Starting to think about pulling out the DSM V here...

Shouldn't this be in the psych forum?

This person seems to get a rise out of the replies (look at me, I made a rhyme). As soon as it was mentioned that they were writing in poetry format they took off running with that and every reply was written in the same way.

Maybe it should be in the psych forum?

Maybe then people reading this thread

would finally "get it". But until then,

this certainly is not a poetry forum.

And what planet are you from?

I couldn't agree with you anymore

about people settling out of court

all the time. Actually only about 5%

of all lawsuits go to trial. Most are

either dismissed before trial or settled

out of court.

I have one more thing to say. . .

You must be a reasonably intelligent person to have successfully gotten admitted into a school of nursing. Let's face it: not everyone is able to attain admission.

With that having been said, it would be wise if you focus your energies on the things you can change instead of fixating on bygone events where closure is never a certainty. Since you are a smart person, why not give it another shot, dust oneself off and give nursing school another try at a different institution?

Life is not always fair, as evidenced by some people winning the "ovarian lottery" at birth while others get the short end of the stick. School is not always fair, either. However, I love proving people wrong when I rise above their initially lessened expectations. Remember: you are smart enough to rise above this setback to capture the prize, which is a career in nursing.

You can revisit the past, or you can look to the future. The past cannot be changed, but the future is limitless. Only you can impose limits on your future. Good luck to you, and never stop striving.

What precautions are in place to prevent faculty/schools from cheating? There are NONE! Cheating really IS a double standard!

As I look back and reflect upon my nursing school experience, I recall all of the school's drastic measures to prevent students from cheating and the harsh consequences implemented by the school when a student was caught cheating. Hmmm...now in hindsight I have discovered in a big way that the real cheater was the school itself! Hypocrites?? Yes they were!, they preached the opposite of their own habits. Some of the instructors and school officials at that school were shameless GRADE FIXERS!

Thank you! I take your reply as a

My bad for not making a clarification.

There was an order to dismiss my

lawsuit with prejudice in the courts

filed by the opposing attorney after

settlement was made; I guess that is

considered a "public record".

Huh? What's going on here?
