Is it better to take microbiology after anatomy and physiology?

Published

i was planning on taking anatomy next semester (spring) and taking micro last out of all my science prerequisites. at my school its really hard to get into anatomy if you dont have first or second day priority registration (and i have third day priority), so i was thinking of taking micro next semester instead because i think it fills up slower than anatomy, then by the time i want to take anatomy i'll have enough credits to qualify for first day priority.

Any thoughts? Would it be better to try and get into anatomy first?

I suppose its a personal preference. I took Microbiology first. Im in A&P 1 now and taking A&P 2 next. Im very happy with my choice. Micro helped me get through the first 3 chapters of A&P very nicely. Its just a recap of micro, so I would suggest you take micro first.

I took Chemistry, then Microbiology, and now I am in A&P I, with A&P II to follow during the summer. For me, I feel like each class built a foundation for me leading into the next class. I learned things in Chemistry that were helpful in Micro, and I learned things in Micro that have been helpful in A&P I. But, as many have said, I do not feel that there is any right or wrong answer, and is just a matter of personal preference.

  1. Hi there :)!

I took Anatomy on Spring, Micro on summer, and Physio on Fall. Because those classes are always full every semester. So take any of these 3 classes that is still available and not on a waitlist (Waitlist has a slim chance getting in the class). :p Goodluck!

My school requires us to take A&P before micro, but I really don't think taking micro beforehand would be any big deal. At the very least, having the knowledge of human anatomy is helpful once you start studying the clinical diseases, but none of it is rocket science that you wouldn't be able to figure out.

As an example, knowing about the eustachian tubes helps you to understand how pharyngitis can quickly become otitis media.

It doesn't matter what order you take them unless your school requires it. (Which it sounds like your's does not)

Anatomy may help a little with understanding phys but everything should be right there in the book for you anyway.

Where I attend school Anatomy and Physiology are combined. I took that in a Maymester and took both A&P II and Micro together in the Fall. Some of the terminology from A&P I did come up in Micro which made it easier to keep up with the lecture. But I'm sure you'll do fine in which ever order you complete them in. Good luck with everything!! :)

just got done with AP 1 and 2 and doing micro next
