Study in the Philippines or U.S.A?
hi everyone! i just wanted to hear some of your speech or advices. please do. how do i start? well, i have been here in california, usa for about 8 years and currently a part of us citizen. finished my high school here and had a associate degree in a nearby college. during my college times, i have taken all of my prerequisites and requirements for nursing, oh dear, it was a struggle. the result was astonishing, i have received a gpa of 2.3 for the 3 major prerequisites. indeed, in order for a student to get into the program "finish anatomy, physiology, and micriobio and the gpa must be above 2.5" oh no, right? but there is only one community college i was qualified to apply for the nursing program -- they added one prerequisite, which is the english composition -- thus, where i got a gpa for 2.5. so i applied to that school immediately and my application has been on a lottery for 2 years now. during 2 years of waiting, i am working as a cna, so i'm doing something productively while waiting to be accepted into the nursing program. there is a private school that offers bachelor degree for nursing around my area. believe it or not, the price is , $100k above. my heart sank into my stomach. i will never give up for majoring in nursing. my dearest mother told me to switch to another career such as accounting, business, or not related to medical. i said, "no, this is where i wanna be". i was wondering if it is a good idea to go to the philippines to study nursing. please express some pros and cons regarding on studying in the philippines. and also how much is the tuition/financial where you have attended or graduated, does your school gives credit to some of the subjects that i have taken, how many years is the program, dual citizenship, etc.. for someone who are filipino that were us citizen and graduated in the philippines for their nursing career, please share your ideas or story here. i'd be happily appreciate your help. thank you very much!:redpinkhe

CNA job hunting for new comers
I really appreciate your responds guys!:) I'd definitely not lose hope for searching a job. I hope one day the recession crisis will vanish! Literally, how am I going to get a one year experience if I don't have a CNA job history or anything related to CNA duties? Hmmm... by volunteering? But I need money :w00t: I lived in Southern California by the way.

CNA job hunting for new comers
hello everyone. I passed the CNA State Exam few weeks old and begun searching for a job. Still, I don't have my license card yet. I went to hospital/healthcare/covalescent websites to look unto job employments for CNA; though, I feel depressed because they'll only hire CNA's who have one year acute care experience. How am I going to get a one year experience if all hospitals are hiring "one year experienced CNA"? I need your help and advices. Thank you in advance! My wallet is crying, too.

Going to the Philippines to study BSN
i didn't know that. Literally, I had no idea about the paperworks thingy. Someone just told me about their issues over the US citizenship and wanting to come back to Philippines.

Going to the Philippines to study BSN
I would suggest to finish your BSN in US. So forth, I lived in US for several years. Bunch of my filipino friends were planning to continue their RN program in the Philippines and I asked them why. One common answer, "because the universities in the PI don't have a waiting list". Oh, I know that the community colleges and universities RN program in US will give you a pain-in-the-butt favor, and that is a "waiting list for more than 2 years"; hence, the application process will be based on a lottery fashion. Waiting is worth it. On the other hand, you mentioned about your citizenship paperworks, I've heard (means somebody told me this and Im not sure if it's true or not) that if you have had a US citizenship or in progress and deciding to go back/live in PI for more than 6 months and become a Philippines' citizen... What'll going to happen? You cannot go back to US and become a US Citizen for the second time. Sounds scary. It took me about 2 1/2 years to finish all the GED classes and prerequisites for RN Program. Well, many people wants to be a RN, too. Most science core classes are always full, I have to wait for another semester for available seat on any of the science core classes. My golly! Fortunately, you can work as a CNA or caregiver while taking RN's prereqs, requirements, and while waiting for the RN Program's letter of Acceptance. A lot of filipinos in my area do this method. goodluck!

Stuck in between two careers
@MotivatedOne thanks for the message! I'm hoping for the best things to come! I love both RN and RT careers. It is just really hard to get into RN program.

Stuck in between two careers
Hello there! I'm such a complicated/confused person, as everyone told me. I have finished my prerequisites for RN and GED last year. My last semester was a pain in the butt. I've struggled so much with my classes especially the Physiology one. That time it changed my mind, I was thinking of taking Respiratory Therapy career and I like the scopes of their job. The prereqs in RT program are almost the same in RN with additional Chemistry, Speech, and College Algebra on the list. I was not satisfied with my prerequisite GPA at all for RN, it was bad...poorly bad (I already have one repeat and did retake the class). By January 2010, I applied to various community colleges that are eligible to my prereq GPA for ADN, I ended up to 3 colleges. Also, I submitted my application for my RT at a different community college. My plan was to take the first career whenever which "letter of acceptance" mail will arrive first. The same month, I was taking C.N.A program as my preference in nursing. A week ago, a got an accaptance letter for RT program Fall '10 and I was blessed. But at the same time, I was eager and nervous about getting an acceptance letter for RN, too. I was scared because of my prereqs GPA for RN, either they put me to a lottery or they shred my application packet. I haven't called them to notify my application status yet (can I actually do that?). I'm starting to lose hope here. What is the job market for RT now? is it low? not so much high demand? What do you think.. should I go for RT or cancel it? Any advices/suggestion, feel free to share! I want your voice to be heard. :)

Is it better to take microbiology after anatomy and physiology?
Hi there :)! I took Anatomy on Spring, Micro on summer, and Physio on Fall. Because those classes are always full every semester. So take any of these 3 classes that is still available and not on a waitlist (Waitlist has a slim chance getting in the class). Goodluck!

the weigh of your GPA
This is going to be my last semester before I complete my pre reqs. Accredited Nursing schools requires every pre nursing student to complete the pre reqs and must obtain a gpa of 2.0 above. Unfortunately, my overall GPA is at 2.5 and Im worried that it is a bad situation. I've already have one repeat. Should I'll be worried about the weigh of my GPA? :innerconf

When your semester ends
I'm currently taking my pre-reqs for RN in a nearby community college. Though, this is my last semester in school. However...HOWEVER..... (now I'm feeling devastated ) Im taking Human Physiology class and I'm failing it! I already have ONE REPEAT in one of my pre-reqs. (oh I need some comfort..... ) My professor in Human Physiology advised me to enroll in LVN program if I did not pass that class. My goal now was to take CNA or LVN first to any nearby (Los Angeles or Orange County) Adult Schools that offers CNA or LVN. Private schools are way way way too fancy. My parents and I could not afford the loan's interest -- indeed, economy crisis, darling. Does anyone of you know any Adult Schools in LA or OC area that offers LVN program? If you have any suggestions or comment, feel free to advise me. Thank you so much!
