Is anyone out there having such a hard time with WGU?

Updated:   Published

Hi. I am in WGU's RN to BSN program and have started my first class a month ago and have tried the assessment 2 times and have failed it. I am soooo discouraged and want to quit. I had heard so much positive information on this school that I thought it would be a doable program. I don't feel its doable. If anything its hard. So not like an online course work. You pretty much get access to book for class, read modules and prepare yourself for assessment and if you pass it you get credit and if you fail you retake assessment but there is a but to this because after your second try of not passing you need to pay a 50$ fee for retaking exam:( I wish some people would have mentioned how hard these tests are....:( I soooo would not have started WGU. I don't know what to do:( I am looking into dropping out and starting with GCU... Anyone have any positive advice?

Hi traumarn2008, I have not taken it yet. Are you in this class also or taken it? I'm reading all the material it asks for even if its optional....and there's so much reading..should I do the preassessment now? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Reyval04- It appears we're all told differently my our mentors. Mine said to take it, then I would see where my weak points were and go from there - you would know what to study or focus on. I am currently in the class now, started on 8/1.

well we have the same start date! Yes I just emailed a couple of course mentors and they told me not to take it?!!!Well I'm almost done with my readings....i'm towards the end, but I will go back and review the objective questions because that's where they base the questions for assessment. I guess it would make sense to take it and see where my weak points are....so yes we are being told differently....

Very interesting to say the least. I did do my paper for this class (RUP1) already though, and I passed that with flying colors. Haven't really gotten too far with the readings, etc. for RUC1 though.

My mentor told me I couldn't go ahead with rup1 unless I pass ruc1......wow that's wonderful. Was it difficult? I haven't looked at it at all....I'll talk with my mentor again

There's a thread on facebook (the wgu rn to bsn group) about all the recent failures on RUC1. If you have failed, please leave feedback in the COS! I have heard they are working on this but they won't until we all complain. I haven't taken it yet, but with all the problems reported on the facebook community and in the wgu communities not sure I want to. :)

So how many objective exams are you required to take while getting your BSN? I was enrolled in the old program before these recent changes and did not have to do just one objective exam. It was a pain scheduling it and living in the country, my internet was too slow so I had to go to the library to take it. I really hope I do not have to do too much of that.

Hi!! I'm just starting at WGU and was REALLY hoping I could get some quick tips or hints for how the final for Care of the Older Adult was gonna go!! I take mine tomorrow and I'm kind of freakin out. I took the preassessment and got an 80% but they said it was NCLEX style questions. What should I be studying/cramming?? Please help!

You'll be fine on that exam!! Just study from your coaching report and brush up on anything you missed. The questions are similar in type to the preassessment. Good luck!

I'm taking my OA for Care of the Older Adult tomorrow and I just wanna know what to cram or study for considering I have no clue what kind of NLCEX style questions they're gonna ask me!! Is it hard?? What should I look over? Any help on taking the final would be much appreciated, I'm kind of freakin out. I REALLY don't wanna take this test again.

Just be sure to read ALL potential answers before selecting one. I found on a great number of the questions at least two of the answers were blatantly wrong, helping narrow down the potentials. Study healthcare reform, Medicare/Medicaid and assessment of the older adult.
