IRSC Spring 2016 hopefuls!

U.S.A. Florida

Hello everyone. I'm currently enrolled in my last set of pre-reqs for the RN program. In my microbiology classs, I noticed there is high anxiety because the applicant pool looks strong this year and 90% of my class are nursing applicants. I would like to start a support group, for passing along information, questions, advice, or just emotional guidance. We can all be nurses. We can all do it. Let's help each other get there! Does anyone have any tips for the NLN exam? Unfortunately, I have class and cannot attend the free review sessions.

Hi everyone! I have already applied for the Spring semester! I applied last semester and got denied. Crossing my fingers for this semester! Good luck future nurses!

Brittani22 what is your class schedule like this upcoming semester?

Brittani that is so awesome that you got in! I am so happy for you! If you don't mind me asking, what was your NLN score? I got a 120 on the NLN last year and didn't get in with that, so I have been trying to study as much as I can now. I have an A in anatomy and B in the lab, then a C in micro and B in the lab.... not the best, so I really want to do well. Any insight would be great! Kind of freaking out right now. Just feeling stressed, really wanting to get in.

I only got a 126 but truthfully I was only shooting for a 130. I was not good at making myself study for it. From following previous forums it seems like spring semester is a lot harder to get into. I had A's in the labs, B in anatomy lecture, and a C in micro lecture as well. I don't know what your weak spots are but mine was definitely the vocabulary portion of the NLN. Since you have already taken the test before think back on what you struggled with most and study up on it as much as you can.

Brittani22 what is your class schedule like this upcoming semester?

Class on Mondays 8-1

Labs on Tuesday and Wednesday 8:30-12:30

Fridays are test days

Does that schedule stay the same all semester? Or does it change when the lab day turns into clinical day?

So true! The tricky thing for me is remembering that we will NOT have calculators. So I'm reviewing long division, multiplying fractions, etc. And you're so right about people being secretive. Also, you're the first person I've encountered, who is currently in, still willing to share info and help those in the process. So thanks. Good luck with the remainder of your entry process, and I hope the whole program goes smooth for you!

I am trying for spring 2016 and I'm really excited. I did pretty well on the nln i got a 150 so my overall score is a 182. The nln consisted of a lot of fraction problems quite a bit of physics most of which focused on energy wavelengths electricity sound very random topics. The test does not give you much time per question i think it was way less then a minute an answer so be prepared to answer what you can and move on. They give you paper and pencil so i just wrote down the questions i had to go back to on the paper because the computer was a bit glitchy.

Even tho i know my score the wait to find out if i get accepted is painful.

Good luck everyone i hope were classmates soon

Wow. Congratulations! That's a great score! Yes the wait is surely nerve wracking but you'll get in! Be faithful!

You know I have to bombard you with questions right? Haha, I'm testing on the 24th or 25th, (depending on my nerves). My only problem with studying is I truly need to brush up on math and science. It's overwhelming, because these are not concepts that can be retained quickly. Did they provide formulas? I know I have to do without a calculator, but how hard was it without one?

Hi Sydney! I am applying too! I am unable to attend the free review sessions as well but I have been studying at home. I am trying to squeeze in at least 2 hours a day a couple days a week. Just brushing up on my science and math. When do you plan on taking your test?

Chelsea, I was just curious to know if you tested yet? I'm testing next week.

There wasn't alot of questions involving formulas there was a lot of fractions multiplying adding and converting to whole numbers. Formulas were not a big part at all. For the science section I'd brush up on wavelengths, potential kinetic energy, what transistors do in electricity .....i would say it's a good idea just to study one of the nln test prep books because is such a wide array of sciences you should just try to get a basic handle on all the disciplines the book goes over.

One thing to keep in mind is the test is designed so that people will generally not get anywhere near 200 points and it's gonna feel like your missing a lot of questions and that's okay. Don't get hung up move on to the next question and then come back at the end n Good Luck

Sydney no I have not tested yet. Planning on going the 25th! I am feeling a bit nervous!!! I am really going to bust my butt and study this week!!!!! I wish you luck! I hope you are not as nervous as I am ! I will post my score when I take my test :)
