IRSC Spring 2016 hopefuls!

Published

Hello everyone. I'm currently enrolled in my last set of pre-reqs for the RN program. In my microbiology classs, I noticed there is high anxiety because the applicant pool looks strong this year and 90% of my class are nursing applicants. I would like to start a support group, for passing along information, questions, advice, or just emotional guidance. We can all be nurses. We can all do it. Let's help each other get there! Does anyone have any tips for the NLN exam? Unfortunately, I have class and cannot attend the free review sessions.

They always tell you 6-8 weeks, If we don't receive letters this week we probably will next week Friday.

Oh good, thank you

If only everyone that had applied had posted there scores... it would be so much clearer

I got a 124 on the NLN and my total score was 152.

A girl in my class the other day told me now they are accepting LPNs that score over 100 automatically. They said that over half the applicants are LPNs or Respiratory Therapists. Now, I don't know how true that is... But the prospects are looking very dim. I hope they didn't change it to that cause I really don't want to spend a year doing LPN.

Oh wow, my hopes are now shattered.

I decided not to do LPN. I am kind of interested in the program because I am eager to get into the workforce sooner. I just could not afford to apply for RN and LPN at the same time. Also you do not get any perks from LPN until you earn your license. So if you get accepted this spring into the LPN program you will not get any advantage over other applicants until March 2017, fall 2017 application deadline. You could apply for RN program spring 2017 while in the LPN program but you will not earn your LPN license yet and not have an advantage yet.

Lets keep hope alive. I believe LPNs graduate once a year in December. You would think most of them would apply for the Fall.

They always said that being an LPN didn't make a difference, but it did for this fall semester at least! I really don't think it's fair. I guess the best advice would be to study as much as you can for the test if you don't get in this time around.

I talked to a few of the LPNs that do their rotations on my floor and they said that LPNs get directly accepted as long as NLN score is over 100, have A&P 1, and they have a current license.

I'm guessing that just changed. Cause originally they said it didn't help you get in but now I guess it does.

That is 100% true. My girlfriend went through the LPN program & just got accepted into the RN program. I also spoke with Ann Hubbard and she confirmed as long as you pass your LPN boards and have a 100 on the RN NLN you are automatically accepted. I've applied twice to the RN program with a total score of 148. I was not even an alternate. I completed the surgical tech program at Irsc a few years ago (which they do not take into consideration) I have all of the pre-req's required for my BSN (except nursing core classes) and a 3.3 GPA. It is a very hard program to get into. I decided to apply to LPN this time around (as well as RN) I thought wasting a year in LPN was stupid too but I've wasted a year & a half applying to the RN program.
