Hey everyone! I know this is super early to be talking about the fall semester but I just got my denial letter for the Spring 2014 semester so I wanted to make this group for anyone that's applying or didn't make it in like me. I got a 109 score on my NLN exam which makes my total points for program 130. I took A&P I & Micro which accounts for my points. I would like to retake the NLN in 6 months & hopefully I can do much better. I'm currently enrolled in A&P II & plan on just studying my butt off for the nln in the process. Classes I have left before I'm done with all my "pre-requisites" are A&P II (which I'm currently in), Chemistry, and Nutrition. (which I plan on taking those in spring/summer). Maybe we can get a study group together eventually if anyone is interested! Best of luck to everyone! :)
I have a question that I don't know an answer even exists for: If someone with an LPN scores 152 and I (not an LPN) score 160...Do they get preferential treatment for admissions to the program? Just curious. I went to orientation and the lady who was running it specifically told everyone "The only thing that matters is your points. Being an LPN or a paramedic makes no difference" (She said it twice.) But then later I learned that wasn't correct and there is some sort of preferential treatment for LPNs. Also, second question, how many students in the program are LPN versus traditional students? Half, third, 3/4?
graciemb,If someone is already an LPN or Paramedic they can qualify for advanced placement, meaning they can skip over Nursing Concepts 1 and go straight to 2.
It doesn't take the spot for one of us though, it actually frees up a spot for an alternate.
That's what I thought BUT this is the answer I got back from the nursing department at IRSC....
[COLOR=black] My Question:
"I was at the RN orientation about 2 months ago and I have a question. Yesterday in class someone mentioned that applicants for the RN program who are already LPNs actually have a certain number of seats reserved for them...so their LPN actually gives them an advantage irregardless of the point system when it comes time to be accepted into the program. Is this accurate?"
Here is the response I got:
[COLOR=#1F497D]"LPN’s have preference into the program , however, they must make the minimum requirements. They are the first to be accepted. Then, we use the point system for selecting the traditional students. There is not a set number."
So....maybe I'm not interpreting her answer correctly, but it seems to me like their licence does come into play in the admission criteria.
FYI: Nursing students. Nursing faculty do not return for work until 8/14. Therefore no meetings are scheduled on the 6th or the 11th. Please note that on the calendar for 8/6 these are TBA (to be announced). Also 8/11 is the same. Please, before you give advice, please read carefully before incorrect information gets distributed. The convocation is (TBA). Please do as the course coordinator asked and in July register for the class. About one week later, you will receive an update on the important dates. Also, the calendar was distributed at orientation and not by instructors at advisement. If you received another one, that is fine. But, at this time. almost everything is the same. So, you are not missing anything and will receive more information in July. Hope this clears questions up. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
I have a question. I plan on applying to the next semester. But Hubby & I are trying to conceive (I know! lol) but I'm concerned about the vaccinations. I don't mind getting them since I know it's mandatory but i am NOT comfortable getting them while pregnant. Does anyone know if I can get an exemption while I'm pregnant? Thank you for any advice!

It's on the calendar they gave us. They seem to be mandatory
