I want all nurses to be assigned a handheld unit at the start of each shift, like a Blackberry. It will have visual monitor capability as well as tele capability so I can see and hear into my patients' rooms, and glance at their EKG instantly. To heck with HIPAA.
I want everyone on a tele monitor so that some vitals are continuously done, regardless of patient's condition.
I want voice charting, so I talk my charting into dictation like docs do, and I don't have to write or type or any of that.
I want private rooms.
I want a good restaurant on premises that delivers to the floor.
I want to be able to shower and change at work before I go home. I'd actually be willing to pay to have my uniforms done at work so I wouldn't have to drag all that bacteria around with me.

I love this! I also like the voice charting, except I'd probably have to go back and edit out too many swear words.
Sometimes some of the simplest things can be the brightest! When I worked in Ambulatory surgery, post op, there was frequently nausea - and of course, we had the little, inadequate kidney basins to offer them. Unlike the regular hospital rooms, there were no wash basins in the rooms, so, often, we'd get the lovely experience of emesis flowing over our wrists as we tried to hold these little kidney basins.
One day a patient came from recovery carrying this cool little bag - it had a hard plastic ring at the top, and there was a long plastic bag fused to the ring. The ring was just a little bigger around than a patient's mouth. It was wonderful - totally contained the emesis! I asked the nurse where she got it, and she said they were trialing them - I went over and got one, took it to our supervisor, and said GET THESE!! I was also mad that I hadn't thought of it!
something to stop the babies eating your pens!! I'm sure that's what happens every time you lay a pen down and turn back to get it, IT' S GONE:uhoh21: Your colleagues swear they have their own,and haven't seen yours--Must be those darn babies again!!! :lol2:
I want to see the whole bed-sized chux(I work in SICU). Can someone also invent a deodorizer spray that can handle the most potent odor problems without leaving a nasty chemical odor? Peppermint oil does not always do the job.
I had a pt the other day describing a type of wench that he figures we should be installing on all the beds...I agree to that!!
Wouldn't it take a wider bed to hold both the patient and the wench?

I went to a diabetes conference a while back. They spoke of a glucometer that will be measured much like the ototemps. Also, insulin will be in inhalers. Yah, maybe no more injections.

Inhaled insulin is already available. I don't know much about it but it's not approved for everyone, yet.
