How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.

I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.

Care to share?

Hi! I am Sarah, married, no kids, finally going back to school to make something of myself (and get away from a life of being tethered to a telephone in a call center). I am starting LPN school in January. I have some basic requirements credits (last 2 semesters were all A's) from my "old" life (back when I was young and dumb and majoring in psych). My husband and I are sponging off of my folks (and will be until I can start working as a nurse). Thankfully I won't have to work while I am in school, so I can devote myself fully to getting A's in all of my classes.

As you can see I signed up in Sept even though I found out I was accepted at the end of October. Once I set my mind to something I make it happen. That's really why I didn't finish school before. My heart just wasn't in it.

My short term goal is to ace my LPN course and licensing exam (as much as possible) and get employed at one of the hospitals in the area hospital system (they have 3 all within a few miles of my house). I don't want to use names, but they run the only CRNA program around:D

Which leads me to my midterm goal. I want to get my ASN then BSN. I am seriously looking at Excelsior for the ASN and then back to the traditional classroom for my BSN (probably).

And my long term goal is the above mentioned CRNA school. And of course I am hoping that all along the hospital will be helping me out with the costs. :cool:

Darn, this has gotten a bit long winded. Sorry. And what I really wanted to say is why I chose nursing (or why it chose me). My mother-in-law died last year (in the ICU of one of the 3 hospitals I am wanting to work in). It was a short amount of time between her cancer diagnosis and her death. My husband and I probably would have been suicidal if it weren't for the love and support of the nurses. They were more comforting than our family members. If I can do that for even 1 person, then it will all be worth it.

So anyway, yes, I am ambitious. :chuckle I also know I will be coming back here for support and help. I know I won't be nearly this cocky in the coming months. :roll

I'm Chris, 50, living near Dallas with my husband and our blended family of five dogs (including one granddog) and four cats. Getting to go to nursing school fulfilled a dream that has sat on the back burner for 45 years--and was a wedding gift from my husband.

Remembering that helps me stay patient with him longer!

After a chaotic first year in nursing school (where do they find these people??) in a community college, I transferred to Excelsior and am loving it. Aiming for my RN by summer, 2004 (this year!!! can't wait!!!)

I have a son, daughter-in-law and new baby grandson; and a daughter and son-in-law who are the parents of two dogs and a rabbit. Son is headed off to Kuwait on 11/17, the day before he turns 29.

So glad I found this site full of involved and wonderful people!

I'm Lynn and this is a mid life career change for me. A long time ago I was an LPN but let my license lapse after I completed a masters in psychology. I have worked at a state institution writing behavior treatment plans for the last 12 years and I am SO burned out. I got into psych in the first place because I was stranded in a location without an RN program. So, in my mid-forties, single again with the kids almost grown, I thought "if I don't do this now, I never will.". Found an entry level masters program near my home which is perfect for me. I'm finishing up the undergrad portion now (I'll be done in August) and then on to the FNP/MSN half. Except for some role identity issues with being AN UNDERGRAD again, I love it. Even if some of the folks in my class are younger than my oldest child. We're doing our psych rotation now which has been the worst for me. I am totally bored and it is 'way too much like my job which I hate anyway. Ah well, just 2 more weeks of that.

I'd love to here from older students starting on a second (or third) career and from anyone in an accelerated/entry level/or articulated masters program.

Hi, I'm Jeannie. I'm 38 and have been attending school again since January 2003. Because I had attended college years ago, I trasferred my credits and had to only take two semesters or pre-requisites. I have almost completed my first level/semester of nursing, and have three more to go. Will graduate the first week of December 2004! :D None of the classes I've had before could have prepared me for what's expected of a nursing student!!! :eek: It's very time consuming, but I know I will be glad I did it when I graduate! Sometimes I'm so wrapped up in studying and preparing for my next exam or clinical, that I forget that I WILL be an RN soon! That is if I'm still sane by then!:roll :eek: :chuckle

:D Well here goes, new kid on the block. I am my first quarter of first year nursing. passing so far. I started doing my pres about two years ago. i have been out of school for 37 years and this was a culture shock for me. am having sooooooooooooo much fun even with the all the studing. hope i have the time to visit often ;)

Hello all!

Ive been lurking around here for a while and I decided it was time to introduce myself.

My name is Rachel. Im currenetly a junior at the University of North Texas and Ill be transferring to Texas Womens University to get my BSN next fall.

I started out at Texas Tech majoring in Veterinary medicine and after changing my major about 50 times I finally decided on nursing and I really feel as if it fits me.

Im very interested in neonatology, but recently I have also been looking at CRNA programs. For right now, Ill just be happy to graduate so Im not looking too far into the future. :chuckle

hi! i'm 28, one daughter 4yrs old, taking my bsn here in the philippines--reading all your posts...didn't realize that it's so much easier and faster to study nursing here... anyways, i'm in my 2nd sem of my 2nd yr, taking biochemistry, health care 2, and health economics. next yr we start doing community work. i'm hoping to graduate by march 2006. :) i'm glad i found this site!

Newbie here...

I'm Corrie, still taking prereqs, applying to every school within a 200 mile radius of Portland, OR.

I have a BS in Merchandising Mgmt that I was lucky enough to receive from Oregon State (go beavs!) back in '95. Worked in retail management until I had my daughter in August 2001 and never looked back.

I'm a single mom to a very "spirited" two year old so study time is precious.

Looking forward to being a part of this board!

Hi everyone!!!

I have been an LPN for 19 years, and will graduate in June 2004 with my ADN/RN. I am a wife, mother of 4 boys, ages 21,18,10,& 8, and 1 girl--age 4. I was working 5 days a week on the subacute and rehab unit at our local hospital, but I recently cut down to 3 days a week. In addition to this I help with the care of my father, who has chronic CHF with MANY acute bouts of it. I also help my diabetic drug and alcohol dependent brother try to keep himself straight. I live in Ohio at present, but plan on relocating to Georgia after I graduate. I get pretty fed up and tired sometimes, but the only thing I would change would be 2 things: 1) My father would have good health, and 2) June 2004 would already be here.
