how do we choose which state to apply for nclex?

i wanted to apply in ca but they wont issue my license without ssn.

would it be better to apply in vermont since they will issue my license even if im in the philippines?

i want to live and work in ca because i have some relatives there, but im not even sure if i can be accepted in any hospital in california, nobody knows the future. they keep on telling me to apply for a license on the state where you want to live and work. i would like to have an option of having the power to choose and not limit myself in california. if i pass the nclex in california then i wont even have a license to endorse, just the certificate of passing nclex.

any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

in applying a visa screen, you need to send the validation of license form (visa screen) to the state where you applied. they will be the one to send the form directly to cgfns.

the one who will sponsor you will only need a proof that u passed the nclex. that's enough and not the hard copy license.

So basically a foreign nurse could apply for the Visascreen even without a hard license, and just a letter proving that a nurse has passed the NCLEX like in the case of CA?

Yes, but you have to request CA BRN for a service to complete the License Verification Form from ICHP and send it to ICHP for a fee. They will just write something there to validate that you passed the NCLEX in lieu of a license # and ICHP will accept that.

hi, i am planning to take the nclex exam and had received the eligibility letter from Sacramento BRN, after going through the threads im just wondering if i understand the process right or if not could somebody help me please....

as I understood, I could take the exam now and hopefully i would pass it...and after passing it thats the time that I would apply for the license wherever I want to be licensed? or I should apply to California since I applied for the eligibility through them...thanks so much...Im trying to work out the steps myself...

If you pass NCLEX you will not get a license because Ca will not issue one without a SSN which with retrogression you are currently looking at years. If applying for licensure in Ca then when you meet requirements and pass NCLEX it is only valid for Ca if you want to move to another state then you have to meet their requirements for foreign trained nurse. You will not have a license to endorse so will generally have to applying for licensure by exam and get Ca to forward your results.

As mentioned by the previous post have a good read in this forum and try the search facility using keywords and see what comes up

This thread sort of deviated from the primary question in the header: "How do we choose which state to apply for NCLEX?"

The best answer: The state you intend on working and living in.

There is a major misconception among Pinoys and other international applicants to work in the USA, that is the concept that it is easy to move around from one state to another once you are inside the States. It isn't.

You need to research the states and think long and hard about where it is you want to be.

Do you have family there?

Do you like the area?

Is the pay versus cost of living good?

Do you like the hospital network?

Contact the Pinoy Nursing organizations in the states.. there are many of them.

Make the choices for the right reasons, "which state has the easiest application" is NOT a valid reason.

This is your career we are talking about.

Set your goal, make decisions relevant to that goal and then take action. Do not deviate from the course, make a straight line from where you are to where you intend to be. That is the key to success.

In a retrogressive environment , flexibility is your REAL key to success.
