Hi, I'm planning to do some travelling through the states and am hoping to nurse to fund my trip. I applied to NYS but failed the NCLEX this wk. I have to wait 91 days to re-sit but really want to do it again ASAP. Does anyone know if i can apply to a different nursing board in order to speed the process up? I'd be really grateful for any other tips you can give me about nursing in the US. Thanks!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it's exactly as SD said, there are no visas available for HCA's (in fact right now there aren't even any for registered nurses due to the retrogression.)

You said you wanted to go with your partner - what job does she have & which Visa is she going on? You could always "pop the question" ;-) Hehehe!!

There is no legal way as a HCA for you to go to the US and work. There is no shortage of care assistance and it does not have a visa. Sorry it isn't what you want to hear but it just can not be done

That's incorrect. Not that there's no visa, but that there isn't a shortage. We can't get aides for nuthin'.

My girlfriend is a lawyer, she's been headhunted by a Manhattan law firm who are arranging her work permit so no problems for her. I'm desperate for any positive news on how I can get into the US legally, anyone??!!! Is there any work I could legally do? I know this a is a nursing forum but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just assumed that nursing with my experience would be my best chance but it isn't looking that way.

Thanks for taking the time to advise me though, maybe i will have to pop the question after all!

It is very hard to get a visa to work in the US and mainly you need to be skilled worker ideally with experience

RichOOcap: all the very best to you and your girlfriend!! Don't give up - where there's a will, there's a way -I'm a firm believer in that :) Having said that, it may take a bit of time, what with all the red-tape,yada yada yada..just don't give up.

RichOOcap not sure how serious the relationship between the two of you is, but getting married (for all the RIGHT reasons,of course-not to enter a country) might be an avenue? Did you say she is a US citizen? Aw heck, I'm just trying to help you figure out a way to be w/ partner, and be here legally...Best wishes anyway :)

Are you a US citizen or do you have Visa status that permits you to work in the US?

You see, the biggest hurdle is in having the right to legally work in the US.

Yes i am a US citizen im able to work here
