Hi All,
I was hoping someone might be able to answer my question. I will be graduating next May. I've looked on the INOVA website for info on the different preceptorships, but didn't see one about the ICU specifically trauma ICU. They did have one for critical care. Does anyone know if they take new grads in the ICU? More specifically the trauma ICU? This is where I would love to work. I have previous CC experience when I worked on a step down ICU as a tech, which I think I might try to get back into. Thanks for any help!!

Yes, they do!! I actually interviewed with the Trauma department but turned it down in favor of Telemetry. You will need to apply and there are three interviews you go through. Your initial interview is a series of questions about how you would handle certain situations. Then you come back to work on the unit to see how they like you. More questions. I think the third you actually meet with the Manager of the unit. So its very extensive interview process but if you really want Trauma go for it!! Oh, and unfortunately, they make you do Day and Night rotation and it is a two year commitment. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much! That does help. I do love trauma, well not right when it comes into the ED...lol...but after they are somewhat patched up, I find it very interesting. The interview process sounds tough....definitely will have to think about the day/night rotation. I think though a lot of the units do that? I worked on IMC and I know most if not all the new nurses on the unit were required to work both. That just seems so hard to me..one week day,the next week night. I think I would be all messed up...LOL. Thanks again though for your help. :)

I chose to go to INOVA for my fellowship. I'm actually started oreintation yesterday and I'm happy with my choice already. Flip flopping between days and nights will take some getting used to, but I'll manage. Plus the diff is good. I cant wait to actually pair up with my preceptor!!!!
Good Luck!! Enjoy!! What unit are you working on??
I'm on Pediatric Med-Surg. I'm so super happy.
Thank you.

Can you let me know what kind of interview questions they might ask?
Is it critical care related, or something more mundane on a daily life scale?
I interviewed for a computer programming job, but the questions they asks were totally unrelated, and instead was on art history. :-) Took me by surprise!

How did yall apply to INOVA? It seems like everytime I look at their website I only see Registered Nurse 2 openings. Am I just looking at the wrong times? haha

New grads can apply for an RN 2 position but I understood they are RN 1's for their 1st yr.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
