moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html
we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!
Hi Everybody
I signed up for the program and have started to study for the 4csm classes, but will not officially start the "nursing' til Fall 2010. I would love to talk/email all of those in Northern Cali that are in the program or will be starting.
Also anyone know anybody that might be interested in becoming a Preceptor for clinicals?? I think it would be great to start a little support group (!!!) for anyone interested and live in Northern California, we could help each other study/feedback, I am just little scared to be doing this 'alone.'
Unfortunately, they will not verify the version for me because I didn't buy them from them and haven't registered (and don't plan to register) with them. Can anyone help? Has anyone received the CSMs recently that can let me know which is the most current version? I don't mind having older ones, as long as the information will allow me to pass the exams!!
My versions are 2006 and have not needed to get new ones. The only way to know without TCN is to actually look at the different versions. I think you should be okay though. Again, I have not needed new study guides since 2006 and there are 4 I am still working on.

Hi KG916,
Which part of Northern CA are you from? I'm from the Bay Area. I'm still testing out all of my prerequisites and hoping to apply for Fall 2010 as well. My plan is to do all of my prereqs first. Once I'm in the program, I want to focus on the nursing classes only.
I am in Sacramento area.. and yes I totally understand you!!
What i did was I applied to ISU and got an acceptance letter, a student ID and few days later went online to ISU-Myportal and printed out what they call a DARS. The Dars lists all the classes that they have accepted, I have 2AS degrees and 1 AA degree, and almost 90units completed, so all of my classes were accepted, but I knew there would still be a class that they would want me to take, so when I met with the advisor, he was great, and he listed a couple of classes that I need to have completed by June of next year, I've decided since I qualify for financial aid that I will just complete them at my local JC. Also I recieved my first CSM and that Mental Health, I was told that once I complete the test I will get the others.
So the only other thing that I need to besides the two classes, the 4csm's is to take th TEAS exam. I'm pretty confident that I will have all of this done by June of next year.
I've nothing but great things on this forum especially from chaxanmom (sp) but on other forums I have heard a lot of negativity so I am hoping for the best, I already signed for the 4csm which cost me 2k so I am going to stay positive.
I am a little worried about the clinicals, I really don't know anybody that would be interested, so I am really hoping to use the sites already in contract with Sonoma State University.
But yes, please do keep in touch, I am not sure if we can post emails, but I think after facebook, this will be the 2nd place that I log on to every night!!

KG916,
I have 2 Associate Degrees also with over 100 units. I completed 1 semester in the ADN program at my local JC. Unfortunately due to certain obligations, I couldn't committ myself to be a full time student (successfully). Anywhoo, a lot of the prereqs that were accepted for the ADN program are not accepted for a BSN, so I have to do like 7 upper division classes like World Religions, College Algebra, Stats, etc. I completed 4 already and will take the Dantes test of World Religion the end of this month or early December.
Hopefully, I will have everything completed by June 1 for the fall acceptance. But yes, lets keep in touch to track our progress! :)
Hello!
Yes, I have tested out of 2 so far. Mental Health & the first Med Surg. When you are approved into the program & sign up for your first exam Carol posts the syllabus for each on your blackboard. Following that, I have done well.
Who has an extra 2 grand lying around?? Contrary to what I had been told, you cannot use your financial aid for this!!!
Good Luck!!
Kathleen
PS: Joelle Downs is a GREAT resource!!
Yes, please do keep in touch. I also have 2 associates... Which don't equal 1 Bachelors! I am taking a lot of transferable requirements from EC as well as the 4 exams. Finished stats (Thank God!!!) Presently Patho, A History, Ed Psych and Communication of Diversity. Not sure if language will transfer from high school... Yes a FOREIGN Language. ISU is a great program!
How are you doing?
Kathleen
SOMEHOW, I ended up buying 2 TEAS at $118.00 each. I have not yet used either. I thought I was buying a study aid for Mental Health. WARNING! Any nursing books you would like to buy, check with the Distance Learning Nursing Dept first. NOTHING IS REFUNDABLE!!! If they will let you use one of my TEAS packages, let me know. I surely don't need 2!!!! Also, I think since I passed stats It doesn't matter how I do on the math part of the exam... Hopefully. Anyway, included is the code for the online exam and a study guide.

WOW, thank you so much for all that information, I think you are little ahead of me..which is great (for me anyway!!!) I am studying the mental health and then I think I will test in December. Yes, I would definetly be interested in purchasing the TEAS from you, I don't see why not.
LOLZZ.. wouldn't it be great if you could really cash in the 2ASD's for a BSN!!!
I'm gonna add you on to my facebook as well, this is great, what a great forum, a week or so ago, I was afraid and second-guessing my decision and being afraid of not knowing anybody...and doing the program all alone..
Now, question - Is your start date Fall 2010 as well??
I still have a question re: the length of completion, I keep on reading that people have completed it in 4semesters, which I honestly believe is totally doable... coz my advisor told me it would take 6semesters.. do you have any information??
I'm actually going to call Joelle on Monday, I had sent her an email about some of the concerns I had, and wasn't not able to get back to her on Friday.
I really appreciate this.. and all the information you provided. Awesome Job!!
