Indiana State University BSN Thread for Current Students

moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html

we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!

Just a question for those in the Northern California area -- how do you find an exam proctor? None of the libraries want to do it. I can't exactly ask the HR department at work because I have a home office and my employer is in Southern California. I don't know of any place that would do it. Someone suggested Sylvan Learning Center, but has anyone done this?

Thanks

Ballerinagirl- I am using Sylvan for testing; took my first test today and had no problems. It's $200 for a year of testing, at least at the center I am at in IL.

Took Childbearing Family today, it was pretty straight forward-if you are okay with the review questions you should be okay.

Thanks. I went to Sylvan yesterday and they were very helpful and knowledgeable about the process. Thanks for the tip about the Care of the Childbearing Family. I will try to see if I can fit in all 4 test (aaaargh), but a lot of the stuff is review and the technical stuff comes easy to me. it's all the other side stuff (nontechnical, social, and other touchy-feely things) that I find difficult. Give me technical stuff any day and I can handle it. The test I'm likely to flunk (if anything) is the one that people say is the easiest (N106). Go figure!

I am trying to apply for Spring 2010. I'm from California. I purchased the CSM's through TCN. I still have to test out of Intro to Computing. I know I've read the procedure, but I may be too overwhelmed since the deadline is coming. I have to submit ALL the immunization records, background check, and the works before Nov. 1st right? Can I take the TEAS now? When do I purchase the ATI's? I'm confused about setting up a proctor for taking what tests...

I've been set back 3 weeks by the BVNPT because of my name change so I'm taking care of getting my license. AArrggh I have less than 2 months to figure this out. Can you guys help me? I'm really relieved to find fellow future (hopefully for me) ISU students. Thank you!

Info about taking the TEAS can be found at http://www.indstate.edu/nursing/students/handbook/ati-testing/teas-distance.htm

Also, how hard is the TEAS exam? Is there a book or website to help study for this exam?

There is a link on the page at http://www.indstate.edu/nursing/students/handbook/ati-testing/teas-distance.htm to a place you can obtain a study guide>

luv2nurse02: thanks for the tip! i'll definitely check out the blackboard online to get some pointers.

weirdangel: congrats on passing mental health! :) i'm in california too!

i'm so sad. i'm in a bit of a dilemma.....

i just graduated and got my papers to take my nclex. i was hoping to test out of the challenge exams, take my nclex, take the teas, and clep that last lifespan developmental psychology class all before the the november 1st deadline.

however, i just read the website regarding their nursing challenge exams and it says

"only students who have a valid state lpn/lvn license are eligible. "

so, i probably wont be in the same semester as all of you. :(

if i do however, pass my nclex next month, i will have only 2 months or less to pass the challenge exams. i don't know if that's enough time unless i study in tandem for the challenge exams and the nclex since the material is basically the same. perhaps it may even re-enforce the the content of my review.

what do you all think?

isu and the nursing program will let you proceed with application to the university and the lpn-bs track and begin the challenge testing process before you actually have the license in hand - you just wouldn't be completely admitted until you have the license....

Hi,

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my understanding that in order to get in for the Fall '09 Semester you would of had to have the exams taken and passed by the June 1st deadline? I have one exam taken and 3 to go and will apply by Nov. 1st for Spring '10 Semester.

Brenda

You may be confused between admission to the University....and admission to the nursing program. The two different admission processes are explained on http://www.indstate.edu/nursing/programs/bs/lpn-bs/lpn-bs-application-process.htm

How long are these exams? I'm taking all of them in Oct. Wish me luck! Studying like crazy....

65 questions and max two hrs. Good luck!!

Kylea, Congrats on passing TEAS!

I just ordered the Teas manual. Did you use that to prepare? If so, did you find it comparable to the real test. How did you find the maths and science? What's the required score for ISU? I just passed NUR330. Its a lot of material but is doable. I find the module a big help. The practice q and review didn't help much. Just glad thats over! Will be testing out N224 next.

passing scores for teas are: eng. 70%, reading 70%, math 60%, science 60%.

i actually didn't use a teas review manual for the exam; i've taken so many entrance exams over the last two years (military spouse; we move a lot so i've changed programs several times) that i just couldn't stomach buying another review guide. i used the one for the nln. the math i did okay on, but the science covered more material than i expected. there was some earth science on there that i didn't even think to review.

i took and passed n330, and am taking n106 this week. the other two scare me a little bit because there is so much material to cover. i'm going to take those two after i finish 106 and can focus solely on them. good luck to you too.
