Indiana State University BSN Thread for Current Students

moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html

we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!

passing scores for teas are: eng. 70%, reading 70%, math 60%, science 60%.

i actually didn't use a teas review manual for the exam; i've taken so many entrance exams over the last two years (military spouse; we move a lot so i've changed programs several times) that i just couldn't stomach buying another review guide. i used the one for the nln. the math i did okay on, but the science covered more material than i expected. there was some earth science on there that i didn't even think to review.

i took and passed n330, and am taking n106 this week. the other two scare me a little bit because there is so much material to cover. i'm going to take those two after i finish 106 and can focus solely on them. good luck to you too.

isu passing scores for the teas seems fair. never taken the teas test before. having "earth science" on the test makes me wonder what earth science has to do with nursing:banghead:

good luck with n106. you should do well. the test was easy... just be familar with the review q, critical thinking q, be sure to read-up on the sections following those q's referenced as well. if you have time look up the course objectives for each chapter and click on the completed course objectives, i found that to be helpful.

Hello all :) I took N106 and passed last week. I am hoping to take 328 this week and then 224 two weeks after that. How is everyone else doing on getting the requirements met?

Has anyone completed "N328- Nursing Care of the Child and Family", I would like to compare answers with someone. =)

Hi chaxanom,

Are you already in the program? Any tips for someone about to enter? Anything to prepare for? What would you have done if you could go back? What would you have done to better prepare yourself and make things easier? thanks!

hi kylea,

I applied for the spring 2010, just waiting for my acceptance letter!

Did you take NURS 328? I wanted to compare answers and see why I got some answers wrong. =)

thanks!

congrats on passing n106! i plan on testing n224 next.

good luck to you as well!

my experience with phase ii csms:

all four of the tests are 2 hours, 65 questions each. you must get a 75% or 51 or 51 items correct. it is best to log into indiana states blackboard website so that you don't get logged out after 20 minutes. (i learned that the hard way) lol.

once you have sent your nusing challenge exam proctor forms to (moderator edit of name), the person in charge of moderating the exams. she will send the code to your proctor and you are ready to take the test!!!

nurs 106: mental health nursing

in my opinion, this was very easy. if you purchased the tcn modules and used the tcn online resource center test banks, you'll be a-ok!! i only studied for this for one week and passed with an 84% i skimmed through the test pretty fast and didn't really read the entire question on some of them which is why i didn't get an a. if you have good judgement in this area, you'll be fine. the modules to really, really, focus on are nursing care of adults and nursing care of the child and family.

nurs 224: nursing care of adults

this was very hard!! i barely passed with a 75% and i took the whole two hours to finish it. i had to read every question twice! lol. i would study the module very well, especially the clinical manisfestations for the heart diseases. a lot of the questions had all the right answers, but you had to pick the best answer. the answer that would benefit the patient the most!! that's where they get you!!

know these:

  • lab findings
  • interventions and manisfestations
  • post op care
  • diabetes, especially what to do you if have a crisis, ie: diabetic ketoacidosis, hhns
  • modifiable and unmodifiable risk factors
  • gt care and feeding
  • which position to put a patient in after: head trauma, surgery, post op, etc.

that's the most i can think of and remember. take your time with this module.

remember:

when you retake the csms, you have to repay the first half of the exam again and show proof of your purchase of the csm and wait 30 days to take the test again. if you fail a second time, you must wait two months. after failing, three times, you cannot apply to the program for another five years!!!!!!

so yea, study them!! use other resources and materials! don't risk your time and spending more money. lol

nurs 328: nursing care of the child and family

this was the most difficult out of all four!! peds is my worst subject, as i am more oriented towards adult care. the module just gave you a baseline understanding. if i could go back, i would included other study resources like a peds nclex or other peds materials. they are really written like nclex style questions, and you must use your best judgement. i use all the resources made by tcn but didn't think that was enough, even though i passed.

know:

  • developmental stages
  • cystic fibrosis
  • lab results
  • heart and hemophiliac diseases
  • pharmacology of calculating children doses
  • diets
  • etc

i would recommend to spend the majority of your study time on this module. it is very detailed. if i had time i would have spent at least 2-3 months studying for this. seriously, this test was hard.

nurs 330: nursing care of the childbearing family

this test was fairly easy. a lot of the questions were similar to the tcn online resource center review tests. they convey the same material, so if you study the tcn modules, you should be fine. again, though, if you don't have the tcn modules, you might have a difficult time with this test if you're not a pro at neonatal and ob/gyn. i studied for this test for about a month and passed with a 92%. i would suggest studying post op care after the pregnancy and assessments.

well guys,

thats the best i could give out of my experience. i wanna wish all of you good luck!!! i am hoping to enter the spring 2010 program and i have already sent my application. i'll let you know if i've been accepted. i dedicated my whole summer to these csms and have been committed to finishing everything by the deadline. feel free to contact me if you have any questions. i live in the sf bay area, so if anyone is from around here, holla!!!! lol.

lealyn23

What about the practice exam at the back of the text? Are those questions similar to what's on the test or is the test trickier? The reason I ask is because for 224, the practice exam questions weren't too hard. I'm wondering if I'm in for a shocker. I take the test on Tuesday!

Thanks

Do you still have the modules? Thanks!!

If anyone is looking for the phase II CSM modules, please private message me. I am studying for the Nursing care of child and family and would like some feedback on it. I cannot post my email on this link, so in order to get in contact you have to private message me through here.

Leanne

Lealyn I am looking for the TCN modules if you still have them available - not sure how to private message.....

Thanks!

Rats -- I'm so mad.

I failed N224 -- I only got 49 out of 51. I should have re-read my questions again, but oh-well, we learn the hard way.

Anyway, now that I have to show proof of purchase from TCN -- what is the real price of the module? Is it $495? And can you only buy one module? If they make me buy all 4, then it might make me reconsider the program.

Thanks
