Incorrect information in NCLEX study materials.... ever notice it?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

In studying there has been a few times in question answers and rationales I strongly disagree with them and then upon looking the information up see that it is not correct. Has anyone else noticed this? I've seen it in different sources, and tonight studying from NCLEX 3500 it finally hit the last nerve as I have taken the NCLEX-RN multiple times and receiving false information in rationales or questions is not what I need right now! For example here is a quote from the rationale for a question from tonight from NCLEX 3500 (I got the question right it was about smoking censation with angina, but I still always read all rationales.) ".....The client must seek immediate medical attention if chest pain doesn't subside after three nitroglycerin doses taken 10 to 15 minutes apart;....." Hmm, I'm pretty sure its Nitro every 5 minutes x 3 as confirmed in the closest drug book I had availiable, Lippencott. Even a quick google search will tell you that.

So who else has noticed this? I wonder how many questions or rationales I have gone over that had wrong information that I believed was correct....guess time will tell when I take my NCLEX again for hopefully the last time.

mistakes happen...thats why they always include a number for u to call/email mistakes so that they will update it by the next edition....but a mistake like that shouldnt affect the exam...... The one i stopped reading was exam cram.....had like five mistakes in there ...i took that book and threw it in the closet even though it was made by pearson....

Oh yeah, I see them alot. I saw one on NCLEX 4000 saying that the nurse should acknowledge the delusions of a psychiatric patient. I read it in the text that delusions should not be fed into. I pray to God to help us all pass over this hurdle so we can get our lives back

I saw that in nclex 4000 too. about erickson growth and development. i know it and i thought i was correct but my answer is wrong I look at the rationale im not contented then i look in the 2 books and im right. so am not confident to use it anymore im thinking what if i didnt know that and review the wrong answer. so using saunders and kaplan.

I totally agree with you you aredenyf with using saunders. I plan on using saunders and coupling it with exam cram before my boards. Saunders is totally awesome!

I bought the "Exam Cram Practice Questions" book on a whim the other day. It looks good, has 1200 practice questions and is easy to carry around.

However, it's riddled with errors. By question 50 or so I had already noticed 5 or 6 typos. The questions are really easy too (easy to eliminate wrong answers). Sort of confidence builder, but not really helpful.

I'm also using Saunder's 5th edition NCLEX review, which is much better. However, I noticed the questions in the Kaplan trainer program (I did 100 of them with someone taking the Kaplan course and we got 62%) are much, much harder. I'm not sure how that translates to better prep, but they do have some really challenging questions.

what i do is i studied all the questions in cd of saunders comprehensive review 4th edition content by content in study mode which consists of 4000+ questions. i didnt finish the book coz i can learn the content by answering questions in saunders by content area. after i finish that i enrolled in kaplan course. i finished the qbank questions already which consists of 1300+ questions i scored 60% overall, im on my way to question trainer 5,6,7, then im done. i bought also a book kaplan strategies which is 30.00 dollars in borders. yeah i noticed kaplan questions is harder than saunders. but u cannot answer kaplan questions if you dont know the content. saunders build my knowledge. kaplan help me build my application and analysis. so am still reviewing kaplan right now. getting better and better.

Just like with conflicting information, you have to make a decision about what to go with and stick with it. Information changes constantly with new discoveries and new technology, it is difficult to keep up.
