  1. I am sorry to here that. It is difficult on your part as an on call nurse and a newly grad. Your facility should have 24 hr. communication (a quick notes) for all the patients every shift if the one who endorse you forgot to tell something. it happens to me a lot of times. but because we have a 24 hr. communication I dont need to worry but sometimes they forgot to write it too. but you know what the ADON and DON will look at the 24 hr. communication and chart first before they ask us, if they didnt find something in there. our ADON and DON are very helpful esp. for the new grad and on call and perdiem. They were diligent. If they see us giving medications, they dont bother us as long as they can do it by themselves or if not they will just remind us to followup. some boss are just lazy and always depend on you..
  2. wow congratulations! I may be lcking in prayers. I like the whole verse of Psalm chapter 143. thanks for sharing and encouraging. so kaplan does really help huh. once again congratulations.
  3. try nclex-rn and nclex-pn at the same time there is nothing wrong if you try nclex-pn maybe you may pass. I failed nclex-rn but that time i really need to work so i can afford taking nclex-RN exam LOL. nursing home doesnt want me to work there because am not certified nursing assistant they told me to get certification first and come back. I was depressed because I dont want to be a cna... i dont wanna change diapers the whole day. I graduated in nursing just to be a cna oh my gosh. and also i need to take the cna exam too. why applied to board of vocational nursing to take the exam than working any other job. i applied to BVNPT after 2 months i took the nclex-PN exam and passed the first time. I went back to that facility and applied as LVN and i didnt know that the man who told me to get certification to work as cna is the administrator. I work there as LVN. LVN usually the charge nurse. but after 6 and half months saving money I resigned because time to take NCLEX-RN again.. and also i got a chance to work in a hospital LVN or RN. I told myself why not take the board first before I work and apply either still LVN or RN now. by the way I didnt review much in the LVN I just purchase the kaplan nclex-pn q bank which is only $100.00 without the book and i didnt finish it maybe just half of the questions and the kaplan strategy book. but I pass the first time with 85 questions in 1hr and 30 minutes. maybe because I review Nclex-RN when trying to pass the exam. Best of luck to you.
  4. By the way.. what do you mean by foreign nurses? the color of the skin? the accent? the grammar? even shes been here for 10 years, taking care of patients, and american citizen do you still consider her as a foreigner? or are you just insecure because she is a US RN? Oh my gosh I shouldnt be reading this, Im still working to pass the NCLEX-RN. It is soooooooo hard. May God bless us always. May our heart is pure. envy? its a big no no... do our best to do good things to people and God will see the light that shines in our heart and will make our paths straight and succeed in everything we do. I Love you nurses.
  5. go and finish answering questions and reading rationale in the saunders comprehensive review NCLEX-PN cd in the book and if you can afford nclex-pn qbank of kaplan which is $129 but if you dont need the book its only $100. BUT IF NOT KAPLAN STRATEGY IS GOOD COUPLED WITH SAUNDERS.
  6. I dont know if its true. we ask our instructor during our nclex-rn review 2 weeks ago regarding contract law discussion and ask him if there is 2 years contract and we signed and later on decided to leave, if do we need to pay them.. He answered, even if u signed the contract and even if you read and know evrything about the contract and signed it and later on decided to resigned. They dont have the right to hold you. It is like treating you like a slave when you signed a contract. For me, go and look for the contract law of your state to make sure.
  7. Our nursing home Administrator is not a nurse. HE is MBA. Master of Business Administration. so he doesnt know anything about nursing. HE said on my Job interview he is not a nurse but he knows the scope of nursing. but when i was working... he doest even know the difference between the LVN/LPN and RN. He wants LVN to do everything than to hire a RN. Dangerous. esp. for your license. nurses have many meetings but he still stick to what he said. until, the doctor noticed and nurses told him then he talk to the administrator. Its better to have a nurse administrator.
  8. If you just graduated in nursing school and dont have any license yet many facilities will hire you as CNA. some needs certification as certified nurse assistant. because you dont have any license. but if you graduated in nursing school and hold a license as RN they will see you as a professional nurse. they will not hire you as a nurse assistant because of conflict and liability. Remember your license is important.
  9. you are the one who replied to me on nclex discussion for the threads of one of our fellow NCLEX-RN candidate. I replied there already. I actually had same experience as you. I passed my NCLEX-PN exam july by last year here in California. received my licensed in august. applied for a job on september. started to work on october as LVN. got 8 days orientation. and boom!! Got a fellow employee 5 years experience as LVN and they orient him 7 days. They orient me for 8 days without any experience in the past. I told them im not yet comfortable but I ended up working. there is a maximum of 26 patients in one station. it will not be less than 23 patients. I am the medication nurse, the treatment nurse and the charge nurse. I learned that LVN was supposed to be supervise by an RN and the RN was supposed to call the doctor and get doctors order. but not all stations have RN. So Im in charge. medications, treatments, paperworks, and calling doctors. Oh my gosh on my 4th day I want to quit. But I need this job for me to save money for my RN preparation. I told myself not to quit. I pray and pray everyday. 2 people they know they quit. 1 RN two weeks, 1 LVN two months. I told my self I can do it until two weeks and quit but ended working one month I talk to Director of nursing that I request part time because I am having difficulty. I am stressed. but ended up working in 2 months I called in many times. they said they will find somebody to get some of my days. my probation period was 3 months ended working full time in 4 months. I remember One of the doctor there told me get experience atleast 6 months and leave. I paid all my credit cards. save money. I told my self this is a good experience. LOL Then I talked to DON that I want to request perdiem once a week because i am going to study for my RN which is true then after 2 months of working as perdiem I am not really happy on my Job. I lose weight because i am not taking breaks to spend time with the patients. And I decided to resign. two weeks notice. they told me not to resign but I want to focus on my nclex-RN to pass so I can work in the hospital. atleast 6 and half months experience in skilled nursing facility. It was a good experience but its time to move on. So if you can.. try to stay there for a little while and save money, or start looking for a job, or if you are studying for RN.. try to requests part time or perdiem so you have money for expenses. I dont know if you have support from parents or family if ever try to focus on NCLEX-RN exam. dont stress yourself from work. AND PRAY ask him for guidance.
  10. I have LPN/LVN license too and will be taking NCLEX-RN on July. I would rather pay and renew my license than to lose it. When I and my friend applying for a Job. she is RN and I am only LVN when we got to some facilities not hiring RN and hiring only LVN. She badly really need a job that time even caregiver she wants to apply. I easily got a job after I passed the exam. she doest have a job for one year. now I am practicing my profession got more experience than her. that was my experience so dont lose it. Renewal is not that much. you can even work for 2 days and paid your renewal.
  11. To 123wannabeanurse, Clarification: Before anything else I want to inform you I did kaplan twice here in California. The first one was for my preparation for NCLEX-PN last year. The second one was for my preparation for my NCLEX-RN this year. My kaplan instructor told us that students Passing the NCLEX-RN answered overall 90% in Qbank questions and the 7 Question trainer, to answer questions everyday but do not answered more than 150 a day, complete test in one sitting, review all questions and the rationale, 50 Qbank test in testing mode, use decision tree on every question and try to achieve 65% on Question trainer 4,5,6,7 and all the Qbank. Well that was I learned from my kaplan instructor here in California. 60% is good. To Preetimini You scored 48-58% but there is repeated questions. What I did is I answered only the unused questions to know which questions left in the qbank unanswered. no repeated questions encountered. Overall score is 60%. Question trainer bet. 49%-63%. click the unused questions only. then you can go to the incorrect questions. But sad to read that it seems like you only want to focus on kaplan. remember you are a foreign graduate you need to review more than they did. even people who graduated here used saunders 4000+ questions coupled with kaplan. some are exam cram coupled with kaplan or hurst. Even me I used kaplan course and saunders questions which is a total of 6000+ questions and I am attending free review class every saturday and sunday for a content discussions . I told you it is not the english language why you failed. It is your Preparation for the Nclex. Dear you need to study, even the intelligent people will fail if they dont have enough preparation for the exam. Do your best to pass your exam the second time. Please read, read, and read, Answer questions everyday and ask for guidance above.
  12. I agree with gold 2010. you dont need to take english course. the reading level of the NCLEX-RN exam is that of a junior in an american highschool (11th grade). Since you just came here in the United States 1 yr. ago as what I have told you, talk with americans, talk in english, read, read and read in english (NCLEX-RN) because I see that you dont have enough preparation with nclex its not because of english. I remember the saying, "The more you read, the more you know, the more you know, the smarter you are, the smarter you are , the smarter your voice". LOL One day, you will never know.. RN beside your name. Just do everything you can to pass Nclex. even americans failed the nclex the first time so dont give up. your just starting. its not because of english!!
  13. I wonder how was your scores in kaplan? you need atleast 65% in all qbank and question trainer for chances to pass the exam. did you meet atleast 48-50%? I wonder that you only answered kaplan questions? how was the content did you read their book? did you watch all the content video that was included also? kaplan questions are application and analysis questions. critical thinking. you cannot use their decision tree if your in the knowledge level which is below the passing level. you may need to read read read books in english. why not try to read NCLEX review books in english. talk to americans. talk in english. and if you think you cannot remember things read it all over again. there is nothing wrong. I think the best books if you were starting is saunders comprehensive review, then answer the questions in cd which is 4,000+ before you go to kaplan again see if your score improves. i think they will give you 50% discount the second time. kaplan questions is difficult you cannot go directly with them without knowing the content. and if you can afford find some review courses that will teach you the content if u cant do it by yourself. GO,GO,GO you can do it.
  14. what i do is i studied all the questions in cd of saunders comprehensive review 4th edition content by content in study mode which consists of 4000+ questions. i didnt finish the book coz i can learn the content by answering questions in saunders by content area. after i finish that i enrolled in kaplan course. i finished the qbank questions already which consists of 1300+ questions i scored 60% overall, im on my way to question trainer 5,6,7, then im done. i bought also a book kaplan strategies which is 30.00 dollars in borders. yeah i noticed kaplan questions is harder than saunders. but u cannot answer kaplan questions if you dont know the content. saunders build my knowledge. kaplan help me build my application and analysis. so am still reviewing kaplan right now. getting better and better.
  15. wow congratulations to you!!! thanks for sharing bible verse.
