In Second Year of Nursing School and failed my first exam

How do I start?

I was in this same program last year at the same time and missed passing Pharmacology by less than 1.5 points.

I know what I did wrong and I was determined not to let that happen again.

My first exam was on Anemias and Evidenced Based Practice.

I failed. We need a min of an 80% to pass and I got a 73.6. I'm sad, upset and really disappointed in myself. I thought I wanted this more than anything. I'm just so scared of failing again.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm 48 and going back to school for my RN ten years later.

Yup, for some apparent reason a lot of people miss the grade by mere fractions of a percentage point in many instances.

Yeah, don't be discouraged or too hard on yourself. I know it's frustrating and heck, I even think the particular battery of exam questions you get sometimes are part of the problem.

The thing to remember here is we have all failed before. I mean without failing anything, how would we possibly learn to achieve better in the future?

You're so close... So just stick with it.

After all, you did learn something didn't you? Just think how that makes things easier for you next time.

Good luck.

Chin up GF. Most people fail their way forward and this isn't a fatal event unless your anxiety gets hold of you and gets in your way. Review what you missed. Start researching how to read NCLEX style questions to give yourself better odds of getting them right. Oftentimes it is the question's wording and not the content that trips folks up.

I failed an entire class when I went for my BSN. It was nothing more than a hiccup, as I have my MSN now and am working in my dream position. You can do this. Keep your chin up and your eyes forward.

Ty for the encouraging words.

This is my second go round after being re accepted.

My anxiety is awful right now and I cannot let this get in the way you're right about that.

I was ready to drop my program but have gotten a tremendous amount of support from my classmates and your comments as well.

I don't think its my heart not being in it. I just feel like this is deja vu all over again from last year and quite honestly that terrifies me.

Try using picmonic to help you study! It’s an excellent that has fun ways to learn pharmacology for nursing students by creating stories and picture for you of the material. It’s amazing! It’s great for visual audio learners like me who can’t study with notes and a book only.
