Immigration reform bill passed by the US Senate

This is not to burst anyone's bubble but this news is almost 4-5 months old.

Yes, US Senate did passed their version before the Nov. elections. It has to be reconciled w/ the lower house's version and a compromised Reform Bill bet. the 2 versions should be signed by Pres. Bush to ratify it.

After the elections it has not yet been discussed again since Congress re-convene this Jan. They are still busy discussing other priority matters such as the Iraq war, Health care, etc..

Good news is Pres. Bush mentioned Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill on his State of the Union Add. last week or so as one of those that he considers a priority this year and is willing to compromise w/ the democrats.

Thank you for providing the link. It doesn't say much and didn't provided anymore specific details. But it did say just the US Senate. It must be amendments or just additional provisions or something. It still has to go in the lower house and they must agree on the Senate version and when they agree on the diff. provisions then their will be a final draft and to be signed by Pres. Bush. Unless it's signed by Pres. Bush then nothing is ratified yet.

Too few details provided by the website and they are not providing more details until a couple more days. I think it's prob. amendments to the previous Senate version they passed before the Nov. elections. It failed last year because the lower house did not agree w/ some of the Senate's version.

I guess this is a new amended version of the Senate version they passed last year to make it more 'appealing' to the lower house.

It will have to be seen by the lower house again and hopefully they agree and make a compromise w/ the new Senate version.

I looked at your link, and it is mistaken. It is referring to the Senate passing a version of minimum wage reform. The only immigration provision in that Senate bill is one that would bar companies that hire illegal immigrants from obtaining federal contracts.

Immigration reform, when it is taken up, will be a highly publicised and lengthy debate.

Thanks. But I think it still has a long way to go. The House of Rep. just appointed new subcommittee heads for Immigration last Jan 25. 2007.

However, it seems everything is coming into place.

Agreed, but it's going to take some patience. . .
