I'm probably taking Chem + A&P fall semester!

Published

Tell me if this is crazy or not. I never took a science class in college before so this will be my first time, but instead of taking just one, I'm taking two! I'm guessing that science classes are not easy in college and even my counselor told me that taking two at the same time won't be easy! :D I like science classes though..What do you think? I'm taking intro to chem (I think that's what it's called) and A&P 150 (uh I only know that it's 150..I think it had the word human in the class title..or it may be something else) and then after that I'm taking another A&P class along with micro during spring semester! Yayee! :biggringi It's gonna be a party for me :balloons:

I wish I can take A&P online! I wish all of my general ed classes were online so I can save some time :balloons:

Am I taking just those two science classes this fall semester?? NOPE. I'm also taking sociology, eng. composition and speech and then during the spring semester I'm taking the other A&P class along with microbio and three other non science classes. It's the only way in which I will be done with my pre-reqs before the next set of school semesters begin. . .But it seems like all of you guys handled it well so I'm hoping that it will be the same for me. I mean as long as I don't slack off I should be fine right? :D

Dear Heart, you are getting into waters way over your head. If you were just taking Chemistry and A&P I might say OK, but be prepared to put in study time. However, English comp is a major, major class. There will be required reading and writing. Speech is almost the oral counterpart of English comp. And, sociology is no picnic--lot of reading there. I'm surprised a counselor hasn't stopped you from taking so many credits. Take some advice from an old lady who attended a lot of school. Slow down, take an extra year to finish these requirements. Nursing school is going to be history for you anyway if you don't make decent grades in these classes.

I'm taking A&P 1 online thru EduKan, and medical chemistry and nutrition at City College of San Francisco. And I work full-time. Oh well, who needs sleep anyway?!?! :rotfl:

Are you taking that medical Chem and nutrition class online or are they a traditional class?

Traditional brick & mortar class. The A&P class is expensive, so have to take the cheaper classes at my local cc for the other 2.

Cool. That medical Chemistry class sounded interesting. That's why I asked.

I may be taking a class through EDUKAN this semester myself. Right now I am taking online classes through The North Dakota University system. They offer really good classes at a fairly reasonable rate.

here's the class description. city college (of sf) also has a 2nd semester that sounds very cool but in the spring, i'm going to be slugging through a&p2 and micro (and maybe patho and pharm, if apply to the samuel merritt acc bsn).

i don't think the programs i'm going to apply to require a 2nd semester of chem, so i may forget about the advanced class, even though it sounds neat and would be useful if i do make it into an oncology np program. i already work at a cancer center and there's a ton of genomics/molecular epi stuff going on around here. oh well - gotta get the basics down before going on to the fancier stuff.

chem 32. intro to medical chemistry (4)lec-3, lab-3 cr/nc avail. open to all students. no previous chemistry or physics required. satisfies the requirements of nursing and related majors that require one semester of chemistry. basic concepts of inorganic and organic chemistry, biochemistry, and physics as they apply to the chemistry and physics of the human body. csu fomerly chem 30+31

chem 33. advanced medical chemistry and biotechnology (4)

lec-4, lab-2 prereq.: chem 32 or chem 208a, or chem 212a; and math 840or placement in a higher level math course advanced topics in general and biological chemistry, including equilibrium processes, gene expression, dna manipulation and analysis, biochemical transformations, specialized biomolecules, enzymes, metabolic pathways, and nuclear chemistry. csu

weelllll, i know some people could handle that schedule-but i honestly dont know how its possible! i have been doing the prereq thing for a while (just lost my pre reqs and have to do them over-long story) and i am an A/B student--i am taking CHEM and A&P i this semester and THATS IT! its true a lot of us have to double up on science if we are ever going to get through n. school, but honestly, your semester sounds like a wreck waiting to happen! i do wish you all the best-just my HO! :)

Maybe. If I can get into the Samuel Merritt acc. BSN, it would be worth it to me to try to cram A&P2, Micro, patho, pharm into one semester. I won't have to work much next spring, so it might be doable. And if I don't get into SMC, then I just have to get through A&P2, micro, and maybe a med term class, since lots of folks here say they've found it useful before starting nursing classes.

I have taken two science classes each semester with a full load each time. As long as you are a dedicated student and study every night, you'll be just fine. It might seem very overwhelming at first, but develop a schedule and stick to it. As hard as it may be, don't get distracted. Again Good Luck!!! :D

If I don't take a full load of classes, I feel like I'm slacking off! :lol2:

I didn't take a full load this summer and I started getting antsy.

Yes I know I'm demented. I'm one of those people who has always liked school, science and taking classes. I'll probably be enrolled in some type of class until the day I die.

Stay organized and on top of your material and you will do well.

I am wanting to get into nursing. I am just confussed as to what degree, AS vs BS. I am 30 something and have been in an office setting for 12 yrs. I have always wanted to get into nursing and I have finally decided now is the time. Any advice?

This is really a question only you can answer. Folks told me I couldn't take 14 credits (A&P2, Pre-Calc and Spanish), while working full time and I did, with a great GPA. But even I would be concerned with your fall schedule...Eng. Comp could take a bunch of your time (My second Eng. Comp class took more time than A&P3 and Developmental Psychology put together) and chem and A&P will definitely take a lot of time. I'm not saying you can't do it, I'm just saying go in with your eyes open.

Peace,

Cathie
