  1. I did go back and I am not sure how it is going to go but I plan on giving it my best shot. I think alot of it has to do with me feeling like I am invading the residents privacy when they are being showered etc.... I am hoping that this will pass but it just really makes me uncomfortable and I feel like when I am uncomfortable it then makes the resident feel uncomfortable and that is the last thing I want. This is their home and they need to feel at ease. Also I spend 1/2 my time on one shift (which has been great) and the other 1/2 on a different shift (which is terrible) I have been put with a couple other CNA's and one is so foul mouthed. The CNA was "kidding" with a resident saying the F word and going on and on. The other CNA was busy doing her job and really didn't say much while this was going on, but it made me upset. I don't know if I should have spoke up or just keep my mouth shut since I am new. This continued thru the shift.......
  2. Today was my first day as a NA in a LTC and now I feel that my nursing dream just isn't for me. It took all I had not to bolt for the door. I am suppost to start my CNA classes this week and I don't want the employer to waste their money if I am not able to do the job. If I am miserable I know it will show and the residence deserve more than that. I have just always wanted to work in the health care field having direct patient care but I now feel it is something I am not able to do. I truly takes a SPECIAL person to be able to work in that kind of atmosphere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
  3. Congrats.......I am taking Anatomy this spring 2010 and I am scared out of my mind. Any advice?????
  4. I am still working on my prereq. and I was planning on applying to nursing school, but I keep having thoughts about respiratory therapy. I was hoping to get an honest opinion from a nurse. I am really interested in respiratory therapy but everyone tells me they are not respected, not paid well etc..... and that I should not waste my time and to go for nursing instead. Please let me know your advice. Thanks
  5. ParkerBeanCurd, thanks for the advice. I know the longer I ponder about what to do, the longer it will be before it is a reality. I do think I am just going to go for it.
  6. I hope that I have the same feelings. I just called the advising department at local jr college. I am going to go for it. Thanks for the encouragment it is greatly appreciated!!
  7. Thanks, that does make me feel better. I just need to go for it and do my best. Also, good luck to you.
  8. I have been pondering the thought of nursing school (for the last 10 yrs). I was recently laid off from my job in accounting (13 yrs). Nursing has always been on my mind but I wasn't the best at math and science in H.S. Although I had socializing on my mind a little to much and didn't take it seriously. I am now 34 and I am not sure I will be able to pull it off. I think I just need to here from someone that had some of the same doubts and made it thru. I figure now is the best time to start since I am unemployed, I am just scared to deathe. Also, how does everyone pay for college. With me not working money is going to be tight and there would be no way I could pay out of pocket. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  9. I am hoping to eventually become an RN, the route I planned on taking is LPN than bridge to RN. I checked into MCC but the evening/weekend option doesnot start until August 2009. I was looking for other schools and I found Concorde Career Institute. Has anyone completed the LPN program and if so did you have any trouble bridging over. I am desperate for advice.
  10. If you don't mind me asking, where going for your LPN.
  11. I have just decided to go ahead with my nursing dream. 34 and having to go back to school. I have checked out MCC ADN program and have heard rumors about the long wait. I am not sure if I should just go the BSN route or see about an LPN program and then bridge. Can you tell me what LPN program you are in. Thanks in advance for advice. :)
  12. I am pre-nursing (taking pre-reqs) anyway saw this thread and since everyone is talking about labor stories I have one and I was hoping someone could answer a question I have. I was in labor w/my son everything was going smoothly (except for pain) until I had my epidural. I started feeling like someone was setting on my chest and I could hear people talking but they seemed far away almost like I was dreaming. My nurse was standing there and I said that I wasn't feeling well and she called for the anestheologist stat. That was the part that got me (stat). The anestheologist came in and did something and I started feeling better. My mom said that my blood pressure had dropped, anyway labor progressed, I had a smooth delivery and never got a chance to ask what the problem had been. If anyone knows I would appreciate it if you could explain it to me.
  13. I to have been looking into different nursing programs. I keep coming back to PV(because of the $), although everytime I call with questions they make me feel like they don't have time to answer them. Is this program doable working full-time. I want to start asap but according to them by the time I take my basic courses I will have to wait until 2011 to start part time adn program. Then she acted like the program is so difficult to get into. Please help!!!
  14. Thanks, I think I will just take it slowly and see what happens. I do believe if I am determined enough I can make it. Just keep me in your thoughts I am going to need all the help I can get. Wish me Luck
  15. Here is my situation. I have been in an accounting job for over 12 yrs. I have always wanted to become a nurse. About six months ago I decided to go for it, the problem is I am afraid that I can't make it. I am not the greatest at Algebra, although I got decent grades in science in High School I have had no College Science. I think I am afraid to come out of my comfort zone. As soon as I decide to go for it something always makes me hesitate. Plus I have no idea where to start. As soon as I think I am going to go for an ADN someone says Big mistake you need a BSN. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
