I'm probably taking Chem + A&P fall semester!

Published

Tell me if this is crazy or not. I never took a science class in college before so this will be my first time, but instead of taking just one, I'm taking two! I'm guessing that science classes are not easy in college and even my counselor told me that taking two at the same time won't be easy! :D I like science classes though..What do you think? I'm taking intro to chem (I think that's what it's called) and A&P 150 (uh I only know that it's 150..I think it had the word human in the class title..or it may be something else) and then after that I'm taking another A&P class along with micro during spring semester! Yayee! :biggringi It's gonna be a party for me :balloons:

If you don't work then I would say go for it. It always kills me that so many people on this board freak out when you say your are taking a full load, but college students do it all the time. Pre-med students and Biology majors always take several science courses at once and they are going for a high GPA as well.

The only time I would say worry is if you have kids and have to work also. Now those are the people that I admire...that takes some work!!!! My hat is off to every mother who goes back to school. I am waiting to have kids until I am done with NS. I can handle alot of classes at once but I can't handle a kid yet.

I don't think that taking A&P and Chem is crazy at all. I did it in the Spring, and I thought that the two bounced off of each other quite a bit. For example, when my AP professor started talking about pH, I was lost, but when my chemistry professor taught it, I understood perfectly. You just have to study hard, and try to figure out how you can remember the information in a way that is meaningful to you. I remember my psych professor saying that information is put into long term memory when you attach meaning to it.

GOOD LUCK!!

Dear Heart, you are getting into waters way over your head. If you were just taking Chemistry and A&P I might say OK, but be prepared to put in study time. However, English comp is a major, major class. There will be required reading and writing. Speech is almost the oral counterpart of English comp. And, sociology is no picnic--lot of reading there. I'm surprised a counselor hasn't stopped you from taking so many credits. Take some advice from an old lady who attended a lot of school. Slow down, take an extra year to finish these requirements. Nursing school is going to be history for you anyway if you don't make decent grades in these classes.

I think you should take this persons advice. I think that you are overloading yourself on too many classes and taking a big risk here. I do not mean to discourage you, because you can achieve all things you put your mind to, but you have to think about how bad it is going to be if you mess up and do not get the A's you need in Chem and A&P.

Comp and Sociology won't nessacarly require a lot of reading... it depends on your teacher but, yes, you should expect there to be a lot of reading. I made it through my comp and sociology class without ever reading the book and I got A's in both... I think it has a lot more to do with participation, so make sure you always say something in class.

I would advice to trim your schedule down. Whats the harm in taking an extra 8-week summer course for the easier courses?

I already have my BA but I am going back for Nursing. I was signed up for AP I and Micro (first semester back in years) and I dropped Micro b/c I didn't want to risk getting anything but an A (I also work full time). In retrospect I think I could have taken both, but I am also glad that I eased my way in. I was extremely nervous about going back. If I don't double up next semester I will have to take 1 lecture & 1 lab per semester until I am done (I need AP I & II, Micro & Chem). I plan on taking AP II and Micro (possibly one of them online). I realize it will be difficult, but personally I feel it was too easy with just AP I. I may kick myself next semester. :)

I say it can be done!

You can do it!

I am taking A&P1, Chem, Micro and Developmental Psych as well as working 20 hours a week. It takes a lot of motivation and being organized but it can be done. I am 32 and trying to get into a ABSN program so no time to waste!

Good Luck!

Just a heads up.....

this post is from 2005?!?!?!?!?
