I'm gonna sue you

Nurses General Nursing

I heard it for the last two days till I am sick of it.

Actually, I'm just sick of the patient. She is without a doubt the rudest patient I have had the displeasure of caring for.

She frequently told me she knew I wasn't a good nurse. If I were a good nurse, I wouldn't be fat, because nurses shouldn't have time to sit around and eat all the patient's food (I'm 5'4, 160lb, btw-not exactly a whale of a woman). And I am lazy because I took 5 minutes to bring her a pepsi-that I had to walk to the cafeteria and get for her 250lb tail.

Was told numerous times she would sue us when she was discharged-when I asked her exactly what for, I was just told becuase I was so incompetant.

I could go on about this witch, but I'm so sick of her, I don't want to type anymore. Not confused, BTW. A&Ox4, 58 years old. Gave all the staff hell. Even told the doc not to come back in her room till her learned english (he's from india, and does have an accent, but has good english skills). This was after he waited outside her door 20 minutes for her to finish bathing-at which point I went in and told her to get dressed and get back in bed, or he was coming in with her bathing. (if he did, she would sue). :banghead:

I just hate people like her. They make the job a little hard to swallow.

This is a funny story. In ER we had a guy come in beaten up but completely conscious and yelling at everyone and everything. The doctor asked him who did this to him and he replied, "Some guy in a bar after I called his girlfriend a w*ore." Doctor replied, "Glad you spread the love around. I thought you were just saving it up for us."

Had the pleasure of discharging her yesterday. She didn't want to go home, but the doctor on call basically told her he was sick of her verbal abuse, and so was the rest of the staff, and she was more then well enough to go home.

We had this very same thing happen last week and the pt is the mother of my childhood friend (sweetness) and her sister (rudeness).

Rudeness never stopped complaining, she was constantly at the nurses station. Poor sweetness came every day and never said a word. She is so upset that rudeness is doing this. I cannot get in the middle, and always had a rule to never take a family, friend or coworker as a pt.

This pt is not allowed back to our LTAC because of rudeness. However, I have a question, we are a specialty hospital and can refuse pt, but what about the main hospital, can they refuse her? I know they have had enough because I work there sometimes agency.

Sweetness does make it known to the staff that she is not in agreement with any of the complaints her sister has.

anyone who has the authority, can certainly tell rudeness that she is no longer welcome...

regardless of the facility.

If I was having one of my many crazy moments I probably would have said "sue me, go ahead......."

I've had those crazy moments before...I reminded the woman that my first name has an uncommon spelling....so please spell it correctly!

and they especially hate it when you offer your name, the name/#'s of your superiors, before they even ask.

if looks could kill...

Did to tell your supervisor what was going on? We are instructed to report any time the client starts going on about suing so it can be documented. I'm sorry you had such a bad time of it. Hugs, Jules

Yeah, then when this is reported where I work, you get blamed, because of an unsatisfied customer, and I work in LTC. How far should I bend over to take it up the BUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well...I don't know how flexible you are...but...nevermind...I can't say it I'll get in trouble.

It was well documented, and the house supervisor and on call md were both notified.

Patient was also informed it was documented each time she started on about it...and how good would that look to a jury of peers? She wasn't anymore pleasant, but threats of lawsuits ended ;)

I had a patient in the LTC, that complained to me that I wasn't getting his medicine to him at the right time. He said he was supposed to get it at exactly 5:30 am, so that he could lay back down and go back to sleep for awhile. I told the man that I was doing the best that I could and that I was well within the time frame....I was in his room at 5:50 am. But that wasn't good enough. He said he was going to the front office that morning and report me.

I said, "Fine. You do that. And you be sure to tell them what time I was in here, at 5:50 am. And my name is so and so LPN and you be sure you get it right. Do I need to write it down for you?"

He said, "No, I know your name."

Well, I guess he went to the front office and they checked everything out. I never heard a word from them......NOT A WORD.

And guess what??? I got NO MORE complaints from this man that I was not getting his medicine in there at the right time, either.

Whooo hooo to the doc that discharged her. If she was mouthy enough to talk to people like that she was well enough to go home. I probly would have given her the you can sign yourself out AMA anytime you like if you dont like your care or your doctor. Always include the but statement that if you do the insurance and medicare may not pay for any of your visit. That usually shuts them up.

All you can do to protect yourself against lawsuits is document, long and hard. Document every statement out of her mouth with abusive language and all. No lawyer in their right mind would take a case with that kind of documentation into court.
