:angryfire There's a CNA who has worked at this LTC for 5 years. She never gets her vital signs done. I have worked at this LTC for 4 months and I am constantly after her to get it done. All of the other CNA's always do their vital signs without any reminders ever. It seems that this CNA's attitude to us nurses is" I'll do whatever I damn well please. What are you going to do about it write me up?" Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't have time to babysit this CNA anymore. Thanks :)
There was this one CNA who worked at our LTC. She was telling us that where she used to work she would always get "wrote-up". They told her that after so many she would be fired. After she got what she thought was her final "write-up" she grabbed her coat and headed for the door. Everybody looked at her, puzzled, and asked: "where are you going?" She replied: "Well, you told me that....". They told her to come back. And she told them "if you are not going to fire me then quit writing meup!"
I wonder how many write-ups can be done before someone is fired? If someone is getting lots and lots of write-ups and they don't get fired then management is sending them a message. That message is "Oh sure we are going to write you up but don't worry- you can continue to do as you damn well please." :uhoh21:
Re: family and drinking buddies at work. I can relate to that. There is lots of family at the LTC I work at. I sometimes think that the family members are getting pd more than other cna's. I heard one time that they were even getting better insurance that the other employees. I know they get favoritism played their way and it is wrong. I wonder if their is some law against this?
I have written letters to DON, Administration re: CNA's stealing, abusing patients, etc....It seems that sometimes they don't want to hear it. I feel that I am the one who is not afraid to bring things to light. Maybe I just feel this way. I heard that my DON has even shredded letters or write ups I have turned. This is pitiful. I have no proof of this, but another nurse said she was in there and saw this happen. The DON rules the Administrator w/an iron fist. She doesn't tell the Administrator a lot of things that go on there either. I have started making copies of things and turning them in to him as well as her and making a copy for self. Since I am not family or a partier, but a very good nurse who cares a lot about the patients all this is very frustrating.
I really know where you are coming from, but you have to do whats right. If anything happens as a result of the CNA its you they are going to look at first. I go through it all the time with the cna's where I work simply because they are much older thatn me and SET in their ways. Stay strong.:angryfire There's a CNA who has worked at this LTC for 5 years. She never gets her vital signs done. I have worked at this LTC for 4 months and I am constantly after her to get it done. If you decide to make a copy-do not tell anyone-copying an official incident report is against the rules! in most institutions-it is subpoenable by law
Just so you know I wrote two CNA's up for tying a patient down, those documents got lost, so i called the state of NY and had them fired and my supervisor fired for abuse, NY is a restraint free State its illegal. That happen within my first month of being a new nurse . and now everyone in my facility hates me.
Yikes. So just wondering about this? Did you go up the chain of command before you called the state? I always make copies of write ups and would have presented them to the hirer ups or told them I would have re written the "lost" documentation.
Sounds like there are more than just this issue at that place?

I apologize now for my grammar im told its horrible. Which it probably is considering im dyslexic. Anyway, Yes, i had gone to the ADOA, and to the DOA the following monday nothing had been done, they didnt even know about it. It was a very very horrible experience I hope I never have to deal with again.
The Assistant Director of Nursing and Director or Nursing? If they didn't know about it...why didn't you then tell them about it, tell them you wrote something up, re do the write up and then give them the opportunity to deal with it?
Don't get me wrong..I'm all for advocating for my residents etc, but do the chain of command thing first...then you can call the state.
